Former EVSC Head Custodians and Custodians who have retired are invited to apply for substitute custodial positions. Retirees will be compensated at their retirement-date hourly rate as a custodian. The Supportive Services Administration team will guide interested candidates through the application process.

SUMMARY:

Create and maintain a clean, sanitary environment and perform preventative maintenance in and around the school campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building and school grounds.
  • Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work such as weather related issues and lawn.
  • Restock disposable items and provide head custodian with inventory usage and data.
  • Assist community partners with set up for various events on the school campus.
  • Communicate any maintenance issues to the Head Custodian.
  • Maintain exterior doors’ security for school campus.
  • Utilize aerial lifts and scaffolds as needed for various projects.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job, such as operating a vacuum cleaner and mopping floors.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds such as bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines and lawn mowers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Some tasks require the ability of good body balance on slippery surfaces.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
