New Employee Stipend

New regularly appointed employees will receive a $500 stipend after 90 calendar days of employment and have maintained a 90% attendance rate for that period.

Employee Retention Bonus Program

Employees will receive two annual bonuses based on their years of service in the Food and Nutrition Department and maintaining a 90% attendance rate. Stipends will be issued in December 2024 (Paid in Jan 2025) and May 2025 (Paid in May or June 2025).

Mid Semester Stipend (Fall Break)

The Food and Nutrition Department will provide a mid-semester stipend to all regularly appointed employees who return to work after fall break on Monday, October 21st in a paid status and have maintained a 90% attendance rate.

SUMMARY: Food Service Assistants assist as directed by Cafeteria Managers. Positions are open throughout the EVSC district. 

  • 40 Weeks Per Year
  • 3 Hours per day. Hours vary between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Summers off!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists with quality food preparation and inventory maintenance.
  • Assists with service to students and staff.
  • Assists with the daily cleaning of work area and all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Sets up breaks down serving lines (salad bar, hot food, ala carte etc).
  • Operates kitchen equipment.
  • Counts money, makes change, completes related reports.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty as assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience with quantity food preparation and service. Participation in sanitation workshop when offered is expected.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately. 
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY: 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to satisfactorily complete the sanitation workshop presented by the EVSC Food and Nutrition Department. 
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. 
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees policies.

  • To perform the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk, hear, walk and continuously required to stand.
  • The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk and is often required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food, etc. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, close, color, distance and peripheral vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100E and is often required to go in and out of refrigerators and/or freezers with temperatures ranging from 37E to -10E. 
  • The employee will occasionally walk on slippery surfaces.
  • The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
  • The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as cut or burn while performing the duties of this job.
