Job description

We have an exciting regulatory compliance officer apprenticeship. As the Remote Enforcement Examiner (Regulatory Compliance Officer), you will work closely with a team of Enforcement professionals to support DVSA’s aims to prevent, enable and respond. Your main purpose is to assess and follow up on roadside offences, analysing data to make informed decisions on compliance information, collaborate with the wider team, internal and external stakeholders, respond to enquiries from the public and handle complaints. 

You will perform a range of duties, ensuring that accurate and thorough assessments are completed, of operators, approved tachograph centres and MOT testing stations, assessing their processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and highlighting areas of concerns across the Enforcement spectrum. This will include conducting technical analysis of tachograph data, driver’s hour’s information and maintenance systems assessments, and associated tasks in relation to the light vehicle MOT testing and national bus compliance schemes. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and leading on bus compliance remote enforcement schemes
  • Conducting Desk Based Assessments (DBA’s) of operators, approved tachograph centres and MOT testing stations, to assess their processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Analysing data and information provided by operators
  • Updating spreadsheets and managing mailboxes
  • Working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Person specification

About You

You are a self-motivated and ambitious individual who is comfortable working independently and keen to develop and build knowledge.

You will have a good level of computer literacy including experience of Microsoft Word and Excel in particular.

You have good written and verbal communication skills and can effectively deliver information in a clear, confident and professional manner.

You will be someone who can build rapport with key stakeholders both internally and externally and enjoys working collaboratively with people at all levels.

If you do not hold L2 (GCSE grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English then you will complete this as functional skills during your apprenticeship.

Additional Information

This role will be based in Avonmouth, your presence at this location will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.

Please take note that DVSA does not hold a UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker License sponsor and are unable to sponsor any individuals for Skilled Worker Sponsorship.

This role is a Fixed Term appointment for a maximum length of 2 years, there will be a possibility of becoming a permanent Regulatory Compliance Officer once the apprenticeship has been completed.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be aged 18 years or over.
  • Have the right work in the UK.
  • Not be in full-time education.
  • Not be in receipt of funding for other learning programmes at the point of enrolment for this apprenticeship. 
  • Hold or be prepared to work towards L2 (GCSE or equivalent) Maths and English.
  • Have valid and eligible residency status and be resident in the UK for 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship. Full eligibility details can be found here at Annex A. If you are not sure if you meet the residency requirements then please contact us before applying.

This is a development role so to be eligible to apply, the training and development you receive during this apprenticeship must provide you with significant new skills and learning. This is an essential requirement for apprenticeship funding and means you must not already be over-qualified or over-experienced in this type of work.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.
