Job description

Short Summary:

As a Senior Delivery manager, you will be accountable for the effective delivery of complex, high risk products and services in an agile working environment. Senior delivery managers will have experience delivering across a range of products and services, managing a team throughout the entire product development life cycle, and have responsibility and accountability as the main point of escalation into the Programme Delivery Hub. The Delivery Hub is the engine room of the programme, working in sprints to deliver the key components of the programme whilst continually engaging with a complex stakeholder landscape.

The role requires professional expertise in the effective use of agile programme/project methodologies and techniques in the context of service delivery, as well as the ability to work, and communicate effectively, with technical and non-technical stakeholders. You’ll embed agile ways or working and support your multi-disciplined team to focus on the key priorities, running sprint planning and associated activities.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for the overall integrity and coherence of the business activities. You will develop and maintain the programme environment to support each individual business activity within it. You will have highly effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, and be pro-active in resolving issues swiftly, and challenging colleagues and stakeholders to retain focus on the key deliverables whilst maintaining the integrity of the plan.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Suitable candidates will have a proven background in Digital Delivery with experience of managing complex, fast paced technology projects/programmes.
  • Experience of leadership in user-centred design principles and practices.
  • Significant experience of working in an agile project management environment, including scrums, and implementing appropriate project management tools and techniques through a project lifecycle, ensuring a team is working in appropriate ways for the lifecycle phase.
  • Candidates will have strong reporting skills, with a keen eye for detail, ensuring effective and efficient reporting of activity whilst suggesting mitigations for obstacles and blockers.
  • Commitment to maintaining delivery momentum; managing the pace and tempo of a team whilst scanning the horizon for obstacles ahead.
  • Skilled in risk management, proactively anticipating potential issues, and developing contingency plans.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with multiple tasks, prioritising in a fast-changing and ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated through the ability to influence and challenge effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working on IT/digital projects and/or delivery of digital services or software development throughout a product life cycle.

Desirable:

  • Applicants will ideally have experience of working in a shared service environment, but this is not essential to the role.
  • ERP implementation and back-office transformation experience is desirable; drawing upon experience of delivering within successful and highly complex cloud ERP implementation and transformation projects.
  • Previous involvement in a project covering Corporate Services, particularly HR, Finance, Procurement or Digital would be useful.

It would be desirable to hold one of the following qualifications:

  • APM Project Management Qualification, Agile PMQ, Scrum master.

Office attendance

The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK.
