Summer Extended School Year (ESY) staff will support one of these locations: Streamwood High School and Liberty Elementary School.

Two days of professional development are required for summer school. Those dates are May 28 and May 29. ESY begins on June 2 and ends July 2.

ESY occurs Monday through Thursday with no school on June 19, 2025 to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Staff must be available on all days during the summer school sessions.

ESY staff are expected to be at school 15 minutes prior to the school day and 15 minutes after the school day concludes.

Staff hours: 7:45 am - 11:45 am

Student school day: 8:00 am - 11:30 am

POSITION GOAL(S): 

To support the program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and needs of students. 

Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. 

JOB DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher. 
• Familiarize self with IEP goals/objectives for students in the classroom if applicable. 
• Facilitate implementation of functional community based curriculum. 
• Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures. 
• Document student behavior as directed by the teacher. 
• Supervise students during lunch, recess, arrival and departure times, and/or community trips as directed, during assigned work hours. 
• Help in the loading and unloading of student buses at school and on trips during assigned work hours. 
• Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher. 9. Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students’ IEP if applicable. 
• Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc. (this is special skills only). 
• Provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student-para interactions. 12. Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE: 

• Effective communication skills. 
• Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred. 

EDUCATION: 

• Para Educator, Substitute, or Professional Educator License required. 
• Minimum education requirement for a Para Educator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams. 
• Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) required. (Must show Spanish/English proficiency through a measurable testing tool.) 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

• Lift, transfer, position, toileting etc. (for special skills positions only) 
• Physical agility and quick response time. 
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with proper technique.

• Ability to work in a fast paced and busy environment.
• Good physical agility and quick response reflexes

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This is a temporary position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. U-46 reserves the right to terminate the position by the third day of student attendance if a minimum number of students do not register or enroll.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of DUEA employees.
