We are looking to recruit a high calibre Research Associate to our Standards team. The Standards team sits within the Standards, Research and Analysis Directorate at Ofqual, and the role will contribute to Ofqual’s statutory objective to secure qualification standards in a range of qualifications.

Research and data are at the heart of our approach to intelligent, evidence-based regulation. The work we do strengthens our regulatory decision-making, supporting our position as a credible authority by adopting innovative, critical approaches to research and business intelligence. Our research has a direct impact on education, informing approaches to the assessment and maintenance of standards in vocational and national qualifications.

Job description

What the postholder will be doing?

  • Performing research in the field of educational assessment and qualifications.
  • Providing statistical and analytical support to the Directorate and wider organisation, as required.
  • Providing research input to and collaborating with members of the relevant technical advisory groups and committees.
  • Working independently to manage the on-going delivery of research projects.
  • Working with other teams across Ofqual to provide methodological, research and evidence-based support, as required.
  • Contribute to the publication of reports, articles and data.
  • Line managing research staff and other team members, as required.

Qualifications

A degree (preferably a higher degree) in a subject with an emphasis on a range of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, or experience demonstrating the capabilities associated with a qualification at that level

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Experience of personally performing a range of complex research projects using a range of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Experience of designing studies using a range of methodologies
  • The ability to analyse and interpret complex statistical data and technical information
  • The ability to think creatively to solve complex technical research problems
