The Activation Team is seeking a Special Event Assistant. The series runs from late June through mid-August and features kids’ performers and entertainers. Additional opportunities include providing on-site event support at on-site special events and programs including concerts, festivals, races, community events, fun runs and walks, art performances, and other programming throughout the year. We are seeking candidates that are enthusiastic about events and outdoor programs to join our team.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Coordinates the onsite implementation of special events and community events including the Parks Playhouse Jr. Series (late June-mid-August)
  • Provides leadership and supervision at events and programs
  • Directs operations at events including performers, staff, and volunteers
  • Monitors event attendees and serves as onsite representative
  • Provides support to activation team

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating special events and programs
  • Experience with special events equipment
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of special events
  • Bilingual/Multilingual a plus
  • Previous customer service experience.

  • This position is not eligible for benefits.
  • A background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
  • Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License.

$15.10 to $19.75 per hour; 20- 30 hours/week. The position requires weekend and evening availability according to the event schedule.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for at least two hours at a time.
  • Ability to walk at least half a mile and up and down moderate hills without difficulty.
  • Tolerance for working in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, humidity, and cold.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans

You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
