Position Summary

Under limited supervision, assists professionals in the field with operations specialist duties per role-specific knowledge. Responsible for automated processes including oil and gas well operations, produced water facilities, as well as operating and maintaining field equipment and facility functionality. Responsible for surveillance of general field operations and maintenance of various databases regarding production operations. May monitor or lead the work of lower-level operations specialists. Provides operational assistance to personnel based on specialty.

Some duties may include, but are not limited to, calibration of equipment, troubleshooting communication and wiring, and replacing failed hardware.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for surveillance of field operations and maintenance related to I&E. 
  • Proficient ability to provide basic technical and mechanical assistance to production operations personnel.
  • Optimize, maintain, and manage existing automation and measurement equipment throughout the field: meter calibrations, troubleshooting, repairs, wiring of components, oil and water tank measurement, radio installations, and comms maintenance.
  • Train mentor and coach less experienced employees.
  • Conduct job safety analysis.
  • Manage and support all areas of operations to limit production downtime.
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors to schedule and follow up on installation and preventive maintenance programs
  • Ensure all work assignments are carried out with the highest level of quality and safety precautions
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Computer/Software Applications

Proficient level of skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Proficient knowledge of the following discipline-specific programs as required by assigned specialty: SCADA: Cygnet Vision and Cygnet Explorer; PLC/RTU: Remote Connect (SCADAPack), Field Tools (FB3000), ROCLink (ROC 107& ROC 800), IX Developer (Beijer HMI), as well as other equipment specific software.

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills

SCADA/I&E Specialist:

Knowledge of Communication protocols: RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, TCP-IP, DNP3, HART; Automated equipment: Pumps and drives (VFD), Valve actuators (pneumatic and electric), Tank level sensors (float, guided wave radar, ultrasonic), tuning forks, level switches, burner management systems, relays, temperature sensors, turbine meters, coriolis meters, orifice meters, thermal mass meters, mag meters, and pressure sensors. Ability to troubleshoot 12-volt and 24-volt electrical systems. PLC/HMI programming experience is a plus.

Proficient understanding of industry terminology and technical knowledge. The physical ability to respond immediately to emergencies, open and close valves, and carry tools/equipment necessary to complete job duties. Maintain eligible motor vehicle record and license. Ability to climb up to 30 feet in height. Strong operational and maintenance knowledge of oil, gas, and water facility equipment and accessories. Able to supervise contractors safely and efficiently. Has proven ability to perform duties from other levels of Operations Specialist I and II. 

Oversee and coordinate SCADA/I&E projects.

Lead field operations with remote ESD check and identify trending issues. Record ESD failures, safety system bypasses, and LOTO numbers.

Maintain process control operating systems from both hardware and software perspective. Daily functions include maintenance and monitoring of automation hardware, low-voltage wiring, automation related software systems, alarm systems, and security systems.

Typical Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field

preferred.

Typical Experience

Minimum 4+ years of work experience required. Oil and gas industry experience a plus.
