Why does the job exist?

This position will provide exceptional customer service, support program operations, maintain administrative efficiency, ensure compliance, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization in its regulatory responsibilities.

How does it get done?

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Environmental Health field office
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to email in a professional manner and provide a welcoming reception to walk-in clients
  • Managing of various workflow processes crucial to daily operations by prioritizing, and organizational skills
  • Perform data entry tasks accurately and efficiently such as but not limited to; preparation, distribution, and organization of mail maintaining detailed mileage and postage logs, inspection report processing, processing of permitting activities for business entities, preparing invoices, processing payments and processing travel vouchers, office supply purchase requests.

Who are the customers?

  • New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
  • Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
  • Internal staff

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

  • Providing customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Engaging and communicating effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a professional manner through email, in person and through phone calls

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of related experience in office administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
