Under general supervision, prepares and processes flexible scopes for high level disinfection in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations and infection control standards. Transports patients to and from the Operating Room Suite, PACU, and Out-Patient Surgery; performs various basic care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Graduate or equivalent.

2. Complete an on-the-job training program for specific tasks involving patient care and equipment within 90 days of hire.

3. BLS Certification within 90 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1. Patient care assistant experience.

2. Instrumentation, equipment, or endoscopy experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Performs and/or assists with decontamination and distribution of flexible endoscopes and related items.

2. Transports surgical patients safely to and from nursing units or PACU as directed, assists with surgical room set up using Aseptic Technique

3. Maintains clinical scope equipment under the responsibility of perioperative services.

4. Assists with Post-OP tear down of surgery suite as needed and directed

5. Helps with OR/Endoscopy preparation: including but not limited to the gathering and opening of supplies, surgery supply orders from CS, collecting load cards, and etc.

6. Cleans, decontaminates, and processes reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, endoscope, and accessories according to manufacturer’s instructions (IFU’s). Follows departmental policies and procedures, infection control standards, and state/federal regulations. Discerns and distinguishes colors to identify bio burden on instruments, scopes, and equipment.

7. Restocks accurately work areas with scopes, accessories, and supplies. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of disinfectants and scope cleaning solutions utilized in work areas. Plans scope turn around needs according to schedule

8. Places or returns scopes, instrumentation, supplies, or equipment to designated storage locations. Maintains egress corridors.

9. Cleans and disinfects equipment, scope containers, and transport bins

10. Reports and records missing and/or damaged scopes/accessories to leadership team. Handles inventory including repairs and loaners

11. Transports linens, trash, and bio hazardous materials according to established policies wearing PPE and ensuring correct signage is in place prior to transport.

12. Performs designated daily, weekly, and/or monthly cleaning tasks including transport devices, storerooms, procedural rooms, computers, monitors, warmers, carts, etc.

13. Assists in routine unit operations as directed/needed to assure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. When needed, courteously answers telephone and pages in a timely manner, identifying self and unit at all times. Relays accurate telephone, visitor, patient, and healthcare provider messages to appropriate persons in a timely manner

14. Daily maintains work area in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion. Cleans work area prior to end of shift in preparation for the oncoming shift

15. Complies with all Hospital safety-related standards

2. Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.

3. Must be able to perform heavy work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

4. Possess manual dexterity to perform technical tasks.

5. Must possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity within normal range

1. Able to work in a high stress environment wearing surgical attire and PPE appropriate for work areas

2. Able to enter a patient care environment during surgical or procedural case

4. Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, and explosive gas

5. Exposure to to toxic gas, fumes, and odors

6. Exposure to electrical current

7. Exposure to radiation from X-Rays

8. Scheduled shift to work is based on operational needs of the hospital.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to follow written and verbal directions.

2. Demonstrates team-centered professional communications with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other customers.

3. Ability to perform multi-step procedures and prioritize work tasks.

4. Knowledge of surgical procedures and equipment.

5. Must have effective reading and comprehension skills.
