Job summary

At the Senedd, our goal is to place citizens at the heart of everything we do. The Brand and Design team, part of the Communications Service, ensures our brand is consistent and recognisable.

As Communications Officer, you will support the Senedd’s visual design and branding efforts, enhancing our public image and communication. The team works across all Senedd Commission departments, providing help, advice, and applying our brand to all materials. You’ll also be supporting the Senior Strategic Communications Lead as they set up planning processes. You’ll help them to gather information from across the Senedd and beyond that will allow us to think more strategically about how and when we communicate to reach our target audience.

Job description

Key tasks:

The position will primarily be working within the Brand and Design team, however the role will also provide regular support to the Strategic Planning team and ad hoc support to all parts of the Communications service. This will provide opportunities to gain experience and develop skills across a range of areas.

Brand and Design

The Brand and Design team work with all parts of the organisation, making sure the brand is applied consistently everywhere it’s used.

The team develops all design resources and large-scale campaign identities in-house, making sure everything fits within the wider brand.

You’ll need to:

  • Provide excellent customer service to Senedd Commission staff;
  • Manage a team mailbox and respond to requests from internal customers as appropriate and log requests for new work;
  • Use our suite of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe InDesign templates to produce materials for internal customers, and signpost customers to ready-made sources of content;
  • Support the team with project and campaign work;
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide design solutions that communicate the Senedd’s messages and values;
  • Update bilingual internal intranet pages with advice and brand assets (with the Brand and Design Specialist);
  • Update asset libraries (with the Brand and Design Specialist) and online resources (e.g. Flickr)

Strategic Planning

The Strategic Planning team gather and co-ordinate information from the Communications and Engagement service areas, and across the Senedd, to plan our activity so that it has the greatest impact.

The team use evaluation and audience insight to inform plans, and bring together teams to deliver integrated and impactful communication. This team is responsible for co-ordinating weekly planning meetings and a planning grid.

You’ll need to:

  • Manage the Senedd’s Communications and Engagement planner (Activity Tracker) – gathering information from teams across the organisation to keep the teams up-to-date and identify potential clashes;
  • Support the Senior Strategic Communications Lead with the Senedd’s Communications and Engagement evaluation dashboard – collating information from Communications and Engagement teams to help us monitor progress against our KPIs.

Person specification

Job Specific criteria:

  1. Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities;
  2. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  3. Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics;
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft packages, specifically Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable criteria:

The following qualities are not essential for this particular post but have been deemed as desirable. These will only be taken into account in the event of two (or more) candidates acquiring the same score at either application or interview stage.

  1. Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign.

Welsh language criteria:

The language skills for this post have been assessed Courtesy Level Welsh.

Candidates should have the ability to:

To pronounce Welsh names, answer the telephone, greet people or make introductions bilingually

To understand and use proactively familiar, everyday, expressions

To understand very short texts where people are giving basic information about themselves or others in correspondence, on forms or to interpret content using the technology available.
