What will you be doing!

  • Developing and preparing technical specifications and work scopes.
  • Assisting in selecting design/construction participants and awarding contracts.
  • Participating in leading engineering surveillance activities, assessing ongoing design, and reviewing key design documents to ensure requirements are met.
  • Ensuring independent third-party technical reviews of design.
  • Preparing key technical and safety-related submissions for review by the Delegate Design Authority and Chief Nuclear Engineer.
  • Facilitating the transfer of specialized design knowledge to CNL.
  • Assessing equipment options and making recommendations.
  • Assisting the Project Lead and Project Control Representative in developing project work packages, including deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
  • Preparing technical documents, work scopes, and surveillance plans; monitoring design, construction, and commissioning activities with suppliers.
  • Identifying, assessing, and initiating changes relative to the project scope in accordance with project change control.
  • Interfacing with design participants, operations engineers, technical staff, and nuclear operators to provide technical support during all project phases to meet project objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager. 

What we are looking for:

  • Education 
  • Bachelor (Honours) in Engineering, with a preference for Mechanical or Electrical, from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • Experience 
  • 2 years experience or less. 
  • Work experience is preferred and considered an asset. 
  • Eligible for PEO Professional designation or able to start the process.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and technical writing skills are required to interact with team members, internal suppliers, operations representatives, external contractors, project stakeholders, CNL management, and client organization. 
  • General computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

CNL’s Chalk River laboratory is nestled in the Ottawa Valley and affords our employees an environmentally pristine area with extensive forests, hills, and numerous small lakes. These support a variety of wildlife typical to the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. Many surrounding towns, such as Pembroke, Petawawa, and Deep River, provide unparalleled outdoor adventures at your doorstep! 

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee.
