The Controls Lead Engineer manages all engineering activities of a project related to Controls Hardware and Software in order to ensure that relevant deliverables are in time, scope, quality and budget and adhere to established standards. The Controls Lead Engineer estimates and manages controls engineering-related project risks, he owns the related planning and scheduling and acts as point of contact for controls engineering. The Controls Lead Engineer functionally reports to the Project Manager in the respective projects or, if appointed, to a Project Lead Engineer. In addition, the role will be involved in full cycle of the project from sales through engineering up to hand over.

Tasks and Qualifications:
General Responsibilities
- Identify improvements to engineering process and preparing supporting documentation
Project Readiness
- Support Sales team during sales phase by providing technical advice, supporting estimation effort, project schedule creation and understanding of required engineering skill set
- Review As sold solution
Project Management
- Ensure that we have resources from Controls Engineering Team with the right skill set in order to execute the project
- Act as main Controls Engineering point of contact for Project Manager, Site manager, Procurement, Manufacturing, as well as client architect, builder, and design consultants
- Lead project Controls Engineering teams through task allocation and reporting
- Create and update Controls Engineering project status reports, financial forecasts and schedule updates (resources updates); ensuring Controls Engineering cost control
- Document, escalate and manage Controls Engineering project risks (also preparation of Project Status Report / Project Variation Request)
- Ensure all project Quality Gates are met for Controls Engineering
- Conduct regular on-site safety audits when visiting a site; deriving actions
- Identify and propose Lean improvements
- Support lessons learned sessions and project closing
On time, in quality delivery of key deliverables
- Ensure that BOMs for Controls Engineering hardware has been done and ordered
- Ensure procurement of parts, manufacturing of cabinets, and tender for electrical installation is executed with accordance to the timeline
- Check and approve specifications for purchase items/services
- Ensure quality of all necessary documentation to execute installation on site (i.e. schematic drawings) has been provided on time
- Manage Completion of Design Risk Assessment and Safety design validation during controls design stage
- Clarify as early as possible definitions on electrical design that impact customer (TNS or TNCS earthing of power supply locations, etc.)
- Ensure that check list for the installation has been done and site is ready for commissioning
- Ensure delivery of emulated PLC programs and device configurations to Pre-commissioning team
- Ensure commissioning plan checklists/test creation and provide the update on the progress
- Transmitting layout, network and schematic drawings to Emulation model building team and Electrical Installation
- Ensure correct transmittal of all Controls Engineering Deliverables to the Customer i.e. layout drawings, network and schematic drawings
- Support/assist with preparation of Functional Description Specifications
- Create Description Of Operation, align with technical team and obtain customer approval
- Ensure the right technical information has been provided for the Customer Service training
- Ensure project technical documentation is completed, including operator manuals
- Ensure that Hazard and Operability Study ( HAZOP) so as risk assessments for the systems and products has been conducted
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Essential: Degree level of understanding in a technical Engineering discipline
- Desirable: Understanding / Qualification in Machinery Safety
- Experience in a similar role is desirable.
- 5+ years hands on experience working within an industrial automation environment
- Experience leading project teams on complex projects
- Good understanding of project plans, project execution and handover processes
- A working understanding of technical manuals & drawings, Mechanical/Electrical
- Working knowledge of ISO standards governing the automated warehouse industry
- Travel approx. 20 to 50% (depends on the stage of the project) within EMEA
