Job Title: Coordinator of the Grand View NEXUS Faith and Leadership Institute

Department: Campus Ministry

Reports to: Dr. Trisha Wheelock, The Moses Project Director and Gerhard O. Forde Assistant Professor in Theology

General Purpose of Job

Do you love Jesus and working with high school students? Do you have a passion for developing young adults to be more involved in the nexus of faith, life, and the church?

Grand View University is looking for a part-time, temporary Coordinator of the Nexus Institute. This position will oversee, coordinate, promote, and recruit for educational programs of the Grand View NEXUS Faith and Leadership Institute. The Coordinator will build upon existing, ongoing relationships with congregations and denominations and create and maintain additional relationships for the benefit of the NEXUS Faith and Leadership Institute.

NEXUS Purpose

The NEXUS Institute was developed to create and encourage a faith community of high-school aged individuals which encourages all members to explore professional vocation in Christian ministries by means of biblical and theological reflection as well as meaningful relationships.

The Coordinator of NEXUS serves to make that happen through innovation, collaboration, and administration. The NEXUS Institute is part of the Lilly Endowment’s Youth Theology Network grant initiative. We desire applicants with a commitment to Christian faith and an understanding of Lutheran theological tradition.

Essential Functions of Job

  1. Promote and recruit high school participation in the one week summer Institute.
  2. Develop and work with partners, including the Jacobson Institute and Lutheran denominations.
  3. Assist with the week long Institute along with preparing the leadership team leading up to Institute including hiring and training college aged mentors and recruiting adult volunteers.
  4. Oversee all areas of the Institute: planning, promoting, recruiting leadership, training, administrative duties, finances, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Moses Project Director.

  • Recruit high school participants for the Institute
  • Event Coordination
  • Plan, design and coordinate to lead an in-person education event for the high school participants and leadership team.
  • Arrange for lodging, transportation, and all activities pertaining to programming
  • Train Nexus college age mentors
  • Curriculum Development
  • Work with the Jacobson Institute, the GVU Career Center, GVU theology faculty and other partners to revise and develop curriculum for the Institute.
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Prompt and professional communication across various mediums such as phone, email, social media, etc.
  • Work with Grand View Marketing Department to maintain a marketing strategy for NEXUS.
  • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders of NEXUS.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Lilly Endowment including writing the annual report (with assistance).
  • Manage the online content portion of NEXUS (emails, blogs, social media, etc.)
  • Presence and Collaboration
  • Be an active presence at Campus Ministry events and activities.
  • Maintain healthy, professional relationships with Campus Ministry staff as well as colleagues, curriculum developers, participants, and NEXUS collaborators.
  • Maintain a weekly meeting with The Moses Project Director.

Qualifications and requirements for position:

  • Familiarity with the Lutheran theological tradition.
  • Be creative, innovative, communicative, and reliable.
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with the supervising Moses Project Director and other constituencies.
  • Organizational skills.
