THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO $84,363 to $101,145. Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as our agency budget and equity.
The purpose of this position is to enhance the security efforts of the entire Department. The Department needs an experienced individual to focus on all elements of cybersecurity. The Department of Information Technology officially adopted the NIST Risk Management Framework as the state standard for managing risk and security.
Cybersecurity addresses application security, information security, network security, disaster recovery with business continuity planning, and operational security. The nature of today’s security risks are constantly changing and evolving and creating a new/separate position enables greater separation of duties from security and operational activities with a focus on cybersecurity.

Division Information:
NC Department of Justice Information Technology Division is responsible for the design, development, and deployment of new business applications and continuous support of existing applications. The division is also responsible for supporting all networking associated with the DOJ computers including assessing needs for required hardware and system products. The infrastructure is a mission critical environment supporting the legal services and criminal justice users. Finally, the division is constantly engaged in research and planning to position its environment to be consistent with North Carolina’s statewide technical architecture.

Management Preference: Candidate current certified with the nationally recognized ComptiaSecuirty+, CISSP, and/or CISA.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related IT field or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area,
OR
Associate degree in computer science or a related IT field or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in IT security or closely related area,
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Credit for foreign degrees will only be given if verification of degree certification is attached to your application. Transcripts for foreign degrees have to be evaluated by an organization like World Education Services to determine US equivalency.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
