Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Security Risk Group (SRG) Lieutenant for the facility is to manage the day-to-day functions related to the Security Risk Group (SRG) population and serve as the lead for the facility in working with SRG intel. Job duties include:

  • Oversee, supervise, and provide guidance for the Intelligence Team to include the Security Risk Group Intelligence Officer (SRGIO) in SRG related issues/incidents at the facility level.
  • Maintain a source of accumulative information regarding any activities or persons that may pose a risk to the general public, staff, offenders, or the orderly operation of a prison facility.
  • Provide security, supervision and gathering of intelligence for potential incidents involving gang activity and related data.
  • Oversee the investigation process for SRG related issues/incidents at the facility level.
  • Monitor trends, track the validation process, and track progress of all SRG programs.
  • Serve as liaison to the Division of Institutions at the facility level.
  • Interact on a daily basis with facility staff and leadership regarding all SRG matters.
  • Serve as the primary resource and subject matter expert for all facility staff by providing oversight and guidance in the performance of SRG duties.
  • Complete required reports, i.e. SRG Reports, Disciplinary Reports, Incident Reports, Use of Force Reports, Accident Reports, etc. within designated time frame per NCDAC Policy and Procedures & facility Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure offenders are moved throughout the institution in a safe, secure and orderly manner. 

As of January 01, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 01, 2025.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC11. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Franklin Correctional Center:

Franklin Correctional Center is located in Bunn, NC, Franklin County and is a medium custody male facility housing approximately 480 offenders. Special programs at this facility include: Enterprise Sign Plant, High School Equivalency, Employment Readiness, Adult Outreach Correspondence, Thinking for a Change, Father Accountability, Commercial Driving License, Business, Hospitality, Commercial Cleaning, Industrial Maintenance, Logistics and Distribution, Computer Application.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented experience of the methods and procedures of discipline and rehabilitation of offenders confined to a correctional facility. 
  • Knowledgeable in emergency response procedures. 
  • Documented knowledge and/or experience working with Security Risk Group (SRG) populations and intel.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant, or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
