Job description

The Strategic Networks Computers and Communications (Strat NCC) Programme is at the core of delivering defences Strategic Command and Control capabilities. It was created out of a long-term governance structure, that delivers the assurance to the Senior Responsible Owner in the effective delivery of the Programme Benefits and delivering capabilities greater than the sum of its parts.

The team provides the operational focus, ensuring that associated operational orders are in place, to activate and deliver the military effect required, with the capability that you will be delivering.

As part of the Strat NCC Programme, you'll assist with the responsibility for providing expertise on the delivery of security effects for key sites and prime contractors, to assure that policy is being met and advise on how to meet policy change or bring new sites to standard; engaging with the Project Team, to assure the designs are appropriate for the security requirements.

Responsibilities

You'll support the Security Advisor in meeting the primary objectives of the Strat NCC Programme including, the provision of security assurance concerning key Strat NCC locations, tracking independent security audit recommendations and providing advice on solutions to mitigate these findings, through:

  • Acting as the initial point of contact, reporting and providing support to the Security Advisor on security issues with key stakeholders, including external parties. Actively develop strong working relationships in relation to security.
  • Assisting with support for prime contractors, to ensure the correct security effect is provided to protect the MOD information and assets they are delivering/holding.
  • Assisting the Security Advisor in supporting the independent audit teams with site specific expertise, ensuring they are afforded access to requirements to assure all aspects of security (including physical and Cyber).
  • Through engagement with the wider programme, support assurance initiatives for security to be considered at the earliest design stages of all the projects.
  • Supporting the duties of the Branch Security Officer, in accordance with MOD Main Building policy and assuring clearances of visitors.

Person specification

This role may be suitable for someone with a good understanding of either physical security, personnel security, risk management and/or cyber security within an organisation.

We are looking for a team player, who has good communication and interpersonal skills combined with a calm and analytical approach. You’ll need the ability to clearly articulate issues as they arise, so that decisions can be made under pressure.

You’ll need an enthusiastic and flexible approach and be able to inspire others to deliver change. You’ll use your experience of working with diverse stakeholders to be effective across Defence and industry, alongside strong service management and delivery discipline.

Please ensure that your CV and application demonstrate the essential criteria below:

  • Experience of working in security and familiar with, or willing to learn, the principals of risk management.
  • Able to adapt when required and be flexible in your approach.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners on complex projects.
  • Great communication skills, both verbally and written and able to network and influence.
  • Excellent time-management ability and able to prioritise under pressure.

Additional information

Dependent on the business need, there may be a requirement to travel to meetings within the UK (or potentially occasional overseas visits).

Due to the nature of the post and the IT systems that you will be required to use on a regular basis, there is a requirement to attend site daily. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

If not already held, successful candidates will be required to undergo DV clearance. Please note this position is open to sole UK Nationals only.

The successful applicant will be posted into one of the defined Government Professions on Standard Terms of Reference for the grade. Defence Digital reserves the right to move individuals between roles, within their allocated profession, to meet the needs of the business and in support of agile resourcing.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
