The expectation is once accepting a summer position the staff is required to report to work for the entire summer session. Paid leave is not granted during the summer sessions and staff does not receive benefits of the regular school year (i.e. sick leave, business leave, vacation days, etc.)
Summer program staff must make a commitment to be present for the ENTIRE program including all in-service days, workdays, and student instructional days. Failure to make this commitment may impact future employment with the Summer programs.
JOB SUMMARY
Assists teachers and other school professionals with the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities receiving services during the summer. Assists students with individual and group instructional assignments and tasks. Provides care for the physical needs of students including bathroom/toilet care. This position requires extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending and lifting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists students on/off buses often involving lifting and pushing. Monitors entry and exit of students assuring that they get to the correct classroom.
Assists and/or trains students in bathroom/toilet care and other bodily functions. May be required to change diapers and clean student(s).
Assists in supporting students with challenging behaviors. Reacts promptly in the event of seizures, disruptive behavior, or related situations.
Assists in gathering materials and classroom set up.
Establishes a positive classroom climate.
Supports classroom instruction and implementation of instructional.
Works collaboratively with staff; teachers and facilitators.
Assist in maintaining order in discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning, and monitors appropriate use and care of materials, equipment and facilities.
Observes and gathers data (assessment, attendance) on student(s). Confers and discusses progress of student(s) with teachers and other professional staff.
Inventory and return of instructional materials in a timely/orderly fashion.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
