District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.
This position is in Taos and will be within the Taos Project office.

Perform project field inspections, materials testing, project documentation, office management and monitoring of various construction projects
Monitor materials on highway construction projects to ensure accordance with the contract as well as New Mexico Department of Transportation standard specifications are being followed. Sample and test materials incorporated into the roadway during construction. Reporting on a daily basis, pay quantities for monthly pay estimates to the contractor. Document and report project related activities by daily reports on Site Manager. Complete pertinent field reports and testing forms/documents that may be required in a timely manner. Assist Office Manager as needed.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business/personal reference check and driver's license verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. May require Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to; Nuclear Densometer, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, and Aggregate.
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to: Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises, confined spaces; Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances; Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call outs for emergencies. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments. Interaction with the public by phone and in person. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
