Overview
Maintains the integrity of VEEG monitoring and patient safety surveillance by continuously monitoring patients undergoing video-EEG recording (VEEG) in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) for seizure activity. Serves as an integral member of the patient care team providing real time virtual safety surveillance on patients undergoing VEEG and promptly notifies the patient care team of any clinical events of concern. Will assist the EEG technologists in routine tasks including restocking of supplies and disinfection of electrodes and equipment when not actively monitoring patients.
Responsibilities
- Continuously monitors video of patients undergoing VEEG and identifies clinical events of concern and promptly reports events to clinical care staff.
- Recognizes behavior changes, events or other activity requiring response by EMU staff (or nursing staff or providers).
- Alerts EMU staff (or any nursing staff or provider) when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur.
- Notifies responsible direct care clinicians and supervisor immediately in the event of a failure of monitoring equipment.
- Assist Neurodiagnostic technologists as needed (restocking supplies, electrode removal and disinfection etc.)
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must demonstrate keyboarding skills and be familiar with computer use.
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
- Effective Communication skills
- Ability to multi-task with multiple competing priorities.
- Successful completion of LTM 100 Introduction to LTM.
- College level courses in anatomy and physiology, basic electronics, and medical terminology preferred.
