This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Instructor in Pediatrics - Pulmonary Hypertension is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation’s foremost academic health science center’s working together with one of the nation’s premier health systems, New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

The Pulmonary Hypertension Comprehensive Care Center of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center – NYP is pleased to announce the availability of a 4th year Pulmonary Hypertension fellowship position beginning July 1, 2025 for the Robyn J. Barst, M.D. Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology. This one-year position is open for candidates who have completed their fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology (or ACHD) and wish to pursue a career in Pulmonary Vascular disease.

During the course of the one-year fellowship program, the trainee will learn to diagnose, assess and manage patients with Pulmonary Hypertension. Fellows will become proficient in the interpretation of diagnostic data including imaging modalities (Echo, VQ Scans, CTA, cardiac MRI), pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and measurement and interpretation of cardiopulmonary hemodynamics. The training curriculum will include exposure to extensive inpatient and outpatient management of Pulmonary Hypertension patients including diagnostics, medical and surgical therapeutics, ECMO as well as related research opportunities. The fellow also will participate in the diagnosis and management strategies of our Pulmonary Vein Stenosis program as well as gain experience with use of pulmonary vasodilators in the single ventricle patients which is a growing population. The trainee will also have an opportunity to attend our multidisciplinary CDH clinic and participate in our Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia service. The trainee will have opportunities to participate in teaching and training of categorical fellows and staff. Fellows will be involved in scholarly activity including case-conferences and journal clubs and will have dedicated mentorship in the execution of PH/PVD-related research.

Key Responsibilites: 

  • Diagnose and manage patients with pulmonary hypertension.
  • Clinical responsibilities will include exposure to extensive inpatient and outpatient management of pulmonary hypertension patients including diagnostics, medical and surgical therapeutics, and related research opportunities.
  • Develop an advanced understanding of imaging and hemodynamic interpretation in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
  • Trainee will attend our multidisciplinary CDH clinic. 
  • Participate in teaching and training of categorical fellows, staff and have opportunities to collaborate on and generate novel research with mentors from our faculty.
  • Must have a MD or DO degree and an active NYS Medical License.
  • Must be Board certification in Pediatric Cardiology or an equivalent board certification with experience in cardiology with a clinical training in pediatrics.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
