Job Summary:
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst plays a key role in building strategic business partnerships to deliver actionable insights on opportunities for growth, cost-saving initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies. This individual will collaborate closely with business teams to establish and monitor performance indicators that track operational and process improvements. These metrics may encompass business growth, penetration into new products, customers, or markets, as well as contribution to revenue and expenses from these initiatives. Additionally, the FP&A Analyst will be responsible for evaluating capital investments through advanced financial modeling and partnering with department leaders to develop, maintain, and review internal budgets.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the annual budgeting process and facilitates monthly and quarterly reforecasts.
- Collaborates with business leaders to determine necessary adjustments and meets budgeting requirements.
- Formulates and maintains clear, accurate, and repeatable forecast models by identifying root causes of prior inaccuracies and monitoring the reliability and predictive validity of existing models.
- Investigates profit & loss (P&L) performance drivers and variances between forecasts and actual results.
- Presents findings to the Executive Leadership Team in a structured and actionable format.
- Compiles and prepares data-driven reports, charts, and graphs on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to communicate business performance.
- Designs and delivers insightful sales performance reporting tools, including models for Trade Spend Optimization.
- Prepares and maintains reports and analyses focused on key performance indicators (KPIs) tailored to specific stakeholders and business units.
- Addresses issues and identifies solutions to ensure commitments and objectives are met.
- Partners with other departments to perform special financial and business-related studies, preparing analyses as required.
- Conducts ad hoc analyses and projects to support business management decisions.
- Develops models and tools to enable tracking and improvement of financial and operational performance, including cost-saving initiatives.
- Evaluates and implements systems and tools for budgeting, planning, reporting, and analysis.
- Analyzes capital requests through CIP tracking, ROI analysis, and post-audit reviews.
- Maintains and updates integrated financial models to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Assist the Finance/Accounting department and other department leads with financial reporting needs as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with various internal stakeholders and department leads.
- Self-driven with ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a deadlines-oriented environment.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
- Sound business acumen and communications skills with the ability to build relationships across various functions and locations.
- Possess exceptional time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing workloads, and meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for automating/standardizing processes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and accounting software such as SAP or other ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
- 3+ years of experience in FP&A, financial analysis, or similar role.
- Proven experience with profit & loss (P&L’s) and financial modeling is required.
- Prior work experience in industries such as Manufacturing, Food Manufacturing, or Retail is preferred.
- Advanced skills using MS Excel is required:
- Ability to combine and characterize data from multiple sources.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to properly organize and structure model to efficiently answer the relevant business question.
- Experience using a range of Excel functions (statistical functions, logical functions, pivot, lookup/reference functions, text functions, etc.).
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment with telephones, personal computers, and printers.
- The noise level of the environment is usually moderate.
- Sedentary position with seldom to occasional lifting of less than 50 pounds.
- May require standing less than or equal to 1/3 of the day.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
