Our FotoNation ( group develops algorithm, hardware and software imaging technologies for mobile phone, automotive and augmented/mixed reality applications. With headquarters in San Jose, California, we have research and development facilities in Ireland and Romania. The group’s extensive portfolio of patented innovations includes face detection, modelling and beautification, face and iris recognition, video image stabilization as well as driver monitoring technologies


Our Galway office in Ireland is now looking to recruit a Research Engineer to join our team.

The successful candidate will be part of the FotoNation’s Imaging Research & Development team responsible for developing next generation image and video analytics and enhancement technologies, reporting to the Imaging Research Manager.



  • Research and develop next generation AR/VR, image and video processing algorithms
  • Responsible for bringing the project from concept to C / C++ implementation
  • Work closely with engineering and QA team and assist in the development of any testing frameworks or data capture necessary for the evaluation of new or existing technologies


Required Skills:

  • BSc degree with 3 years relevant experience
  • Proven expertise in some of the following areas: structure from motion, visual robot navigation, SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) or related technologies, photogrammetry, video stabilization, inertial navigation, drone avionics, control systems theory, Kalman filters, Bayesian estimation methods. 
  • Proficient with Matlab: general use, plus Signal Processing toolbox & Image Processing toolbox
  • Solid C/C++ programming language skills


Additional Skills (would be added advantage):

  • Embedded programming
  • Knowledge of image capture architecture and ISP
  • Knowledge of optics, and image quality evaluation
  • Master or PhD diploma in a related field
