Work in a dynamic, high-paced environment and possess very strong communication skills. Programmer will help develop and maintain the program-wide cost-loaded schedule and collaborate across program platforms/vehicles to ensure project performance and completion of key events.

Develop Planning strategy and procedure and set guidelines and expectations for team performance. Establish comprehensive project plans, schedules and analysis that will be used to co-ordinate all project activity and measure project cost and schedule performance.

Position involves assisting with the review of schedules, analysis of baseline schedule and schedule updates, monitoring of schedule delays, tracking of contract changes, analysis of time extension requests, analysis of stage changes, analysis of value engineering impacts and analysis of claims under the direction of Project Managers.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Programmer will be responsible for:

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and various contractor schedules to update and review the overall program schedule and provide timely deliverables

  • Evaluate/report schedule deviations and production rates

  • Proactively assist in the management and overall project delivery

  • Develop and implement scheduling guidelines and enforce the scheduling specifications

  • Develop in depth understanding of project scope by discussions with Project Managers, project team and client and study of project scope statement, RFP, concept designs and any other information

  • Compile Draft schedule using best practices from the information gathered

  • Conduct interactive planning meeting with Functional Managers to finalise project/study schedule

  • Finalise baseline schedule and compile Progress reports from the baseline information

  • Obtain progress updates from team to update schedule and reports as per the agreed project update cycle

  • Analyse update, identify potential issues and/or corrective actions and liaise with Project Managers and project team

  • Communicate reports to team, client and stakeholders as agreed in the study Communications Plan

  • As design develop and increase in definition compile schedule and basis of schedule for the next phase. Prior to completion of the study this next phase schedule must be reviewed and agreed by team

  • Develop project master schedule

  • Commission, monitor and update project schedule

  • Promotes, finds opportunities for and maintains teamwork

  • Maintain quality of work (statutory requirements, corporate standards)

  • Ensures compliance and adoption of practices supporting OH&S policyPerson Specification (Personality Attributes)

  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively in a multi discipline contractual environment

  • Ability to maintain composure under intense deadline driven environment

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Planning/programming/scheduling experience on at least 5 complex building projects/programs with capital value in excess of R 300m

  • Able to produce programmes/schedules for complex buildings from limited design information

  • In depth knowledge of the multiple forms of contract

  • Ability to present to the client and chair meetings

  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines within a team environment

  • Proactive work style and able to work unaided

  • Excellent written and oral English, able to effectively communicate complex information

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 10 years of measurable experience in a full time Planning/Scheduling/Programming position of which

  • At least 5 years is in an EPCM/EPC role and 5 years site based during construction

Specific Skills required:

  • Degree qualified with a minimum of 10 years planning experience

  • Construction experience required

  • Ability to develop, maintain and update program-wide schedules

  • 10 years Primavera experience essential with resource loading abilities A proven ability to manage all aspects of a cost loaded schedule, including earned value reports and cost/schedule integration

  • Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize work

  • Excellent interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential when interacting with internal and external stakeholders

  • Primavera Risk Manager, Earned Value modules experience a plus

  • Experience with Acumen Fuse a plus

  • Owner’s representative and/or Program Management Consultant (PMC) experience

  • Working knowledge of CCS Candy

  • Strong computer skills (Excel/Word)

  • Proficient in compiling WBS, WBS Dictionary

  • Hands on Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVMS)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Good analytical skills

  • Ability to set priorities and meet critical time deadlines

  • Must be able to liaise with project teams and contractor’s staff

  • Must be able to handle conflict in a professional manner and with assertiveness

  • Must be able to commit at least critical and near critical path of project to memory so that any risks to project completion can immediately be identified and highlighted

  • Possesses a fundamental understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling. Able to interpret construction drawings and review and understand engineering, procurement and construction schedule logic

Preference will be given to nationals from sub-Saharan countries

Preference will be given to individual who have relevant experience working in sub-Saharan Africa

Incumbent should be willing to move in-country

Should have experience in airports, ports, roads or railway

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in construction management, engineering or related field or equivalent experience

  • Project Planning certification i.e. PSP (Planning and Scheduling professional) or PMI SP (PMBok Planning & Scheduling Professional)

  • Certified in Advanced Scheduling and Resource loading
