The Opportunity

As the MEL Officer for the Local Health System Sustainability Project’s Jordan Activity (LHSS/Jordan), you will be responsible for supportting the Government of Jordan’s (GOJ) efforts to improve health care professionals’ competencies to deliver quality health services through the institutionalization of a mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) system for professional license renewal. The LHSS Project is USAID’s flagship initiative in integrated health systems strengthening, with a goal to help low- and middle- income countries transition to sustainable, self-financed health systems as a means to support universal health coverage. 

This is a full-time position based in Amman, Jordan, working under the supervision of the Activity’s Senior MEL Specialist. 

This position ends July 30, 2024, with the potential for a one-year extension contingent upon USAID approval of the LHSS project extension.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Collect data, documentation and any validation process needed on a regular basis to measure and double check the achievement against the performance indicators.
  • Update activity dashboards and trackers required to track indicators monthly.
  • Support the Senior MEL Specialist to develop Performance Indicator Reference Sheets (PIRS).
  • Support Senior MEL Specialist in conducting Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) if requested from the client. 
  • Maintain and administer the M&E database; analyze and aggregate findings, ensure continuous updating of the Gantt Chart.
  • Support project progress reporting for monthly, quarterly and project end reports as well as reporting on GIS, DEVResults and any other needed system.
  • Assist Senior MEL Specialist to monitor grants, conduct data validation and ensure data is archived on the shared folder.
  • Conduct monitoring field visits to verify collected data or monitor the implementation of interventions.
  • Assist Senior MEL Specialist in any other assigned duties.

What We Value

  • BS + 2 years’ experience or MS required.
  • University Degree or equivalent in international development, economics, statistics, research methods, political science, public policy, social science, or a related field preferred. 
  • 2-4 years of experience working in supporting projects or activities related to international development preferred.
  • 2 years of experience at least working in the M&E field preferred.
  • Experience working with USAID or other international development agency preferred.
  • Experience on USAID reporting systems: DEVResults sys, GIS sys and KAMP portal is preferred.
  • Excellent reporting and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with Google and Microsoft-based platforms.
