We are seeking an experienced Construction Design Engineer for our Canadian Industrial district office located in Edmonton, AB. 

Here's how a(n) Construction Design Engineer for our Edmonton Industrial Management office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed construction engineering designs following standards, codes, policies, specifications, and regulations:
  • Crane lift studies and rigging arrangements
  • Lifting devices
  • Scaffolding
  • Formwork and falsework
  • Fall protection
  • Temporary structures
  • Custom tools
  • Developing drawings, calculations, visualizations, manuals, risk assessments and other important documents in both 2D and 3D.
  • Read and review construction documents; contracts, drawings and specifications.
  • Develop preliminary design concepts.
  • Work with project teams from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion.
  • Ensure quality compliance for your engineering design work by maintaining design/checking notes according to professional practice management plan procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete design checks and independent reviews of other engineers’ work.
  • Provide construction engineering support to active projects, including conducting site visits to complete field reviews of construction engineering designs and provide on-site engineering support.
  • Supports construction engineering knowledge training by presenting course material.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Civil or Mechanical is preferred).
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience working on heavy lift and rigging engineering activities.
  • Experience in the planning and design of heavy lifts, rigging, and lifting devices.
  • Knowledge of structural steel and geotechnical design considerations and applicable codes and standards.
  • Strong computer skills, including hands on experience with AutoCAD, FEM Software and Microsoft Office, Navisworks and other Autodesk programs.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, P6, databases, and structural design software are a plus.
  • Experience using additional technologies such as Tekla, Civil 3D, BIM 360, Revizto, SmartPlant3D, or Microstation would be considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of current construction best practices and proven field experience in the heavy industrial industry.
  • Effective time management, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer service and solution provider abilities.
  • Networking and relationship development skills with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate engineering and constructability challenges and propose solutions.
  • Curious and strives to be a lifelong learner, gathering knowledge and understanding about various aspects of the construction industry.
  • Passion for sharing knowledge, experience, and expertise with colleagues to mentor and coach others in their development and abilities.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, when necessary.
  • Willingness to travel as per project requirements.
