Overview

  • Sign on bonus - $10,000 and $5,000 relocation (greater than 100 miles) or $2,500 (greater than 50 miles) for nurses with 1 or more years of experience - external applicants only.

The House Supervisor coordinates the functions and activities of the Young Minds Center as a continuous operation 24 hours a day. The HS has the authority/accountability as the administrative representative/resource to provide direction, system expertise, decisions, resources, and leadership to ensure uninterrupted building operations. The HS will work with other regional HAs in patient care planning, assisting in internal and external transfers in and out of the Young Minds Center. The HS will assist in scheduling for the department and BH service line areas when applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Allocates and redirects staffing resources to ensure cost-effective, high quality, safe patient care.
  • Coordinates operations between hospital departments to ensure effective patient throughput.
  • Serves as resource to all departments regarding hospital policies, procedures, and hospital systems.
  • Rounds on nursing units, assessment center, and in other areas throughout the facility. Evaluates patient care activity to assure continuous quality and compliance with established guidelines, standards and policies and procedures and intervenes as appropriate. Reports any deficiencies or liabilities to appropriate manager.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to meet hospital-wide quality initiatives.
  • Communicates with appropriate Hospital Administration/Nursing Leadership any significant issues/concerns throughout the facility.
  • Activates and directs emergency management during internal/external emergencies.
  • Facilitates customer relations with patients, families, news media and public, and presents a positive image when interacting with customers.
  • Responds to all Security Alerts, Medical Alerts and Behavioral Assist situations.
  • Collaborates with security to ensure safety of staff, patients and visitors.
  • Coordinates the organizational response during times of high census, including activating and leading Capacity Huddles.
  • Oversees all serious safety events and deaths in the facility
  • Oversees leadership responsibilities, including coordinating needs for patients in times of crisis, in absence of unit-based leaders and administration.
  • Coordinates referrals and transfers in and out of the facility
  • Must be able to tolerate stressful situations with parents, patients, team members, visitors, caregivers and maintain professionalism.
  • Assists and leads De-escalation efforts with the team and security
  • Rounding in all departments, rounding on all patients involved in a serious safety event, violent restraints/seclusion. Leads debriefings during safety events or when violent restraints are placed
  • Helps to facilitate admissions and discharges timely
  • Coordinates daily team assignments/continually assesses staffing needs and makes changes accordingly
  • Responds to safety events and security alerts, leads in crisis situations and directs staff/security during these events
  • Helps to coordinate patient/parent/caregiver complaints and assists in service recovery
  • Ensures Chain of Command is executed when applicable.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

College Diploma in Nursing and Bachelor's Degree in within 5 years

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI Training) within 3 months.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of three (3) years of current healthcare experience. Leadership experience preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

This individual must have knowledge of Carle's policies, procedures, and systems. The individual must be able to use creativity and flexibility in problem resolution. The individual must possess the ability to communicate with empathy and respect in high-stress situations. Outstanding human relations/communications skills are a must. Must have the ability to work under pressure, withstand stressful situations, be able to multi-task, and be comfortable with change. Ability to actively walk through the majority of shift as will be rounding throughout the Young Minds Center, presenting to the units for crucial conversations with team members, patients, and visitors. They will also complete service recovery and respond as support/resource for code situations.
