Houzz has flagged the スタッフエディター&ライター Japanese Staff Editor / Writer job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

Who You'll Work With

You will be based in our Tokyo or Osaka office as part of our editing and translation team, and a vital source of communication excellence in the broader communications function, which supports interpretation, document translation, and editorial services for McKinsey colleagues in Japan and overseas. We are a multicultural group of high performers who value collaborating to solve problems and who share a healthy risk appetite and bias for action; we will inspire you to continually improve and innovate.

As McKinsey’s presence in Japan continues to grow, so does the demand for precise Japanese translation and lucid Japanese writing. You will join a growing team of talented linguists who engage directly with internal stakeholders to craft well-structured, compelling client-facing materials.

What You'll Do

You will help McKinsey consultants and other colleagues to articulate their messages and deliver impact in client projects. Consultant teams will generally take ownership for the technical expertise and recommendations put forth in project documents, and they will rely on you to translate, edit, and write clear, persuasive materials that move clients to action.

Your daily work may involve some combination of translating client-facing proposals, project reports, and other materials from English into Japanese; reviewing and improving Japanese documents translated by external vendors; advising and negotiating with internal stakeholders on report localization workflows and timelines; and copyediting white papers, memos, letters, and other Japanese documents. Over time, you may even be expected to write articles, reports, and other external content, working in thought-partnership with our consultants to tell their stories in crisp and compelling ways, tailored to a specific Japanese readership. Relevant KPIs for the role include 2,000 words of source text/day (translation); 4,000 characters/day (editing).

As a core member of our first line of defense in document quality assurance, you will help to shape and enhance our team’s document review workflow and feedback mechanisms, ensuring our consultants are well-armed with clear and compelling messages to present to clients.

Please submit an English resume and cover letter, and no more than three Japanese translation or writing samples (maximum of three A4 pages, total; content should be of a business or industrial nature).
