About the role

This position is responsible for providing Manufacturing Engineering support and participating in continuous improvement projects to support Production, Development Engineering, and Product Management to ensure the timely production of quality, cost effective parts and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of engineers to ensure all manufacturing requirements / limitations are taken into account from the initial product conception to product launch
  • Analyze and recommend product design changes for ease of manufacturing to reduce cost, improve quality or reduce time to market
  • Identify and implement new process / equipment required to meet the goals of the project
  • Identify new tooling requirements and make recommendations for the most effective implementation
  • Coordinate with manufacturing site Alpha Runs, beta and pre-production runs
  • Champion key APQP deliverables to ensure quality objectives are met
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Take part in Kaizen events
  • Identify opportunities and Champion them through completion
  • Liaison between plant personnel and engineering to help facilitate improvements in productivity, cost, quality and ease of manufacture
  • Perform Cost/Benefit analyses for new and improved processes and/or products
  • Develop manufacturing and operational procedures including ISO documentation
  • Evaluate materials, components and processes for quality, manufacturability, productivity and safety

Qualifications

  • Must have the ability to work with CAD, Solid Works preferred
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulationsa
  • Must be able to draw and interpret graphs
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers to define specific product opportunities and associated key product requirements
  • Must have the ability to coordinate and facilitate discussions between Operations and/or Engineering and customers regarding product design
  • Must be able to gather input from production personnel and encourage a culture of teamwork through active listening and team implementation of process improvements
  • Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite for Windows on a personal computer; Oracle experience, preferred
  • Must be able to work in a highly confidential work environment Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Industrial/Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, required
  • Experience or internship working in a manufacturing environment, Manufacturing Engineering or Production Engineering is preferred
  • Experience with Injection Molding Plastics, sheet metal fabrication, Hand-rail fabrication, and manual-automation assembly preffered 
  • Lean and Six Sigma experience preferred

This position may require travel of up to 5%
