Job Description

Director, Foundry Engineering

Skyworks Solutions, Inc.’s Technology and Manufacturing Group (TMG) is looking for a passionate, skilled and hands-on Engineering leader to lead our Foundry (external fabs) Engineering group that will create and drive benchmark performance across Probe/ Final Test yield, Quality, Cost optimization, Change control, New Product Introductions (NPI), etc.

Ideal candidate will be an expert in end-to-end fab processing, including deep understanding of fab modules, design/ process interactions and work x-functionally within Skyworks (Design, Product Engineering, Quality, Reliability, Supply Chain, Sourcing, etc) in pursuit of Foundry performance excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities

Foundry Engineering is a highly visible role within Skyworks and will have broad responsibilities, including:

  • Benchmarking and driving to industry leading Probe/ Final test yields.

o Probe yield benchmarking based on fab/ process D0.

o Driving foundries to meet benchmark standards and D0 improvements.

o Partnering with Product Engineering to optimize test limits, SYL/ SBL flagging, including DPAT/ GPAT rules to optimize yield.

o Partnering with Test and Product Engineering to improve Probe test escapes to Final test and drive RF performance variation improvement correlated to fab processing.

o Partnering with Design, Foundry Technology to feedback design/ process marginalities (DFM).

  • Containing Quality issues within the fab walls and/ or feed forwarding Quality concerns for controlled downstream monitoring.

o Ensuring module level FDC is implemented on high RPN’s / critical FMEA parameters to catch process variations as an input versus output/ downstream.

o Good process control through optimizing critical in-line, PCM Cpk.

o Right PCM parameters, including sample size, location, etc being monitored within the Foundry network. WECO rules being applied to appropriately flag outliers.

o Drive to lowest possible MTTD to ensure containment closest to the point of origin.

  • Quality excursions:

o Partnering with Foundry Quality and x-functional team to lead root cause identification, material disposition, corrective action identification.

o Successful corrective action fix will ensure no repeats of similar types of issues and strive to catch excursion at/ closest to the point of origin.

  • NPI execution:

o Partnering with Foundry Technology to ensure we have the right DRC checks including clear understanding of process waivers for NPI’s.

o Driving Probe/ Final test yields to benchmark performance.

  • Change control management:

o Partnering with Foundry Quality to assess, qualify, roll over process changes.

  • Relentless pursuit of optimal cost- examples:

o OQA acceptance criteria- samples v/s 100%?

o Are we over-inking?

o Are we allowing escapes from Foundry to take on cost (die loss) hit?

  • Expert Foundry process leader.

o Depth and breath across process modules.

o Auding fabs towards benchmark performance- right in-line controls, metrology, SPC/ WECO rules, etc..

o Driving Continuous improvement towards better Quality, Cost, Cycle time, etc..

Qualification

  • End-to-end fab processing experience, including deep understanding of critical module parameters and design/ process interaction.
  • Hands on experience on taking a newly introduced technology/ product to benchmark yield performance.
  • Zero defect/ escape mindset- how do we contain Quality events at the source of occurrence.
  • Customer obsessed- partner with Supply Chain, Foundry Quality and x-functional team to ensure a Quality event doesn’t impact customer needs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong background in digitization/ automation to free up time from repetitive work.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience in Semiconductors (Fab Integration Engineering, Technology Development)

Location: Irvine, CA or San Jose, CA or Austin, TX
