JOB SUMMARY: Leads a team of data scientists who design, develop, and evaluate advanced predictive and causal models to measure and influence strategic decisions for investments relating to marketing tactics including audience, promotion, creative, media channel and offer. Drives analysis and development of statistical models to optimize marketing tactics. Helps define and optimize audience and market segmentation strategy. Delivers clear and compelling findings with visualizations and presentations that inform and inspire internal stakeholders to make better business decisions. Collaborates with colleagues in Marketing Operations and IT to infuse predictive analytics and machine learning into customer touchpoints to drive increased relevance and resulting business performance.

This is a working role where the majority of the lead’s time is spent creating data pipelines, extracting and analyzing relevant information from both structured and unstructured data using a variety of techniques, ranging from the statistical analysis to complex data mining and modeling.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analytics

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders translating hypotheses and scenarios into predictive modelling frameworks.
  • Offer technical guidance on modeling methodologies and best practices and build predictive and causal models as needed.
  • Lead team members in the application of advanced methodologies and effectively utilize them to deliver insights.
  • Use advanced analytics approaches such as:
  • Attribution to support the marketing optimization of paid, owned and earned media to drive actionable media insights across key business areas for point of origin, campaigns, destinations, attractions, and events.
  • Leverage top-down marketing mix modeling results, bottom-up attribution and consumer and marketing insights in order to provide strategic recommendations.
  • Develops segmentation, propensity to purchase and look-a-like modeling of individuals across known, identified and anonymous audiences.
  • Create a comprehensive understanding of consumer behaviors that drives audience strategy, improves the customer experience, and generates revenue.
  • Visualize media performance and attribution results in an interactive dashboard.
  • Mentor team members with technical and professional development opportunities.

Data Engineering

  • Lead implementation of best practices for development of model pipelines and analytics workflows.
  • Manage and optimize computational resources to minimize cost and increase efficiency.
  • Understanding of enterprise architecture, how to best integrate projects within existing framework and identify opportunities for platform enhancements.
  • Provide strategic guidance in working alongside the technology department in defining business requirements and enabling the data processing system for modeling.
  • Develop business requirements for IT support in enabling technologies and platforms for advanced analytics use.

Leadership & Process

  • Provide input into strategic leadership and guidance in prioritizing technical projects and developing roadmap.
  • Multi-project management and oversight within function.
  • Able to inform and influence projects or complex solutions in an innovative manner.
  • Conduct monthly/quarterly/annual planning with team to ensure team objectives align and support broader business objectives.
  • Mentor direct reports on a weekly basis to guide them on performance, and personal and career growth.

Business Integration

  • Engage with internal partners to translate business problems into a framework for advanced analytics and collaborate to establish project goals and deliverables.
  • Translate complex technical subjects for internal partners and team leadership through clear visual, written, and verbal communication.
  • Explain methodology, results, and recommendations using business actions and impacts.
  • Helps business stakeholders and leadership understand data science capabilities and aligns the teams support capabilities with business needs.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Advanced degree (M.S., or M.A., or Ph.D.) in relevant quantitative field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, statistics, data science, business analytics) required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years’ prior hands-on experience in data science.
  • Strong experience in programming with statistical modeling tools to fuel and deliver marketing personalization and business insights.
  • Strong experience in manipulating and mining data to transform business decisions that impact the bottom line.
  • Experience leveraging visual analytics to create a seamless and inspirational story that will inspire and inform business leaders with the necessary knowledge to drive revenue and customer loyalty.
  • 5+ years using R, Python, and SQL to apply modeling methodologies and deliver insights ingesting, cleaning and leveraging data from disparate data sources.
  • 5+ years designing and implementing experiments and conducting analysis including exploratory analysis to assess the need for modeling, correlation analysis, assessing model performance, and value of predictive attributes.
  • 5+ years developing code and leveraging data in accordance with company policy and team standards. Ability to monitor data usage for privacy and compliance concerns and adhere to customer data usage standards.
  • 5+ years experience in applying advanced analytical solutions to complex industry/business problems.
  • 1+ years demonstrable experience with team member and/or project level leadership.
