Johnson & Johnson is seeking an experienced candidate to lead external partnership and M&A initiatives for its MedTech business in Japan, supporting the company’s innovation and growth agenda. The Director of New Business Development, Japan will report directly to the Head of Business Development for Asia Pacific and will work closely with leadership in Japan and the Corporate Business Development team based in the U.S.
Johnson & Johnson MedTech produces a broad range of innovative products and solutions used primarily by health care professionals in key surgical platforms such as Robotic and Digital Surgery, Wound Closure, Orthopedics, Open and Minimally Invasive Stapling, Energy, Biosurgery, and Cardiovascular surgical products. As the most comprehensive medtech business in the world, Johnson & Johnson MedTech is best suited to serve evolving customer needs, train more surgeons to improve standards of care, and treat more patients globally as access expands. The business is expected to experience solid growth over the next 5 to 7 years.
Key Objectives: Working closely with global, regional, and local teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for finding, leading and executing external partnership and acquisition opportunities in medtech (including digital health) fields within Japan.
Responsibilities:
– Conduct primary and secondary research on market and technology to generate inputs for strategy formation and deal origination
– Develop growth strategies involving external opportunities for Japan market in partnership with Global and Japan teams
– Prepare market and valuation models
– Conduct and manage due diligence
– Lead and participate in negotiation, structuring, and closing of transactions
– Ensures the coordination and facilitation and commitments with other departments, business units, and functions
– Prepares and monitors department budget and oversees expenses
– Build and maintain connections with key stakeholders internally and externally
– Present partnership opportunities to Country and Regional Senior Leaders
– Establish the road map for new business development and follow-up activities to visualize from market creation, increasing awareness through to adoption after products launch
– Establish grounds for engagement in the Global NPD process to introduce Japan insights in global projects
– Create a platform to deliver Japan innovation to global R&D process
