Our Advanced Technology team is seeking an Electrical Engineer to aid in the design and development of state-of-the-art electronics for our trace detection products. The engineer will be an active and contributing member of a world-class, interactive, cross-functional design team based in Andover, Massachusetts. A strong customer focus is essential.

The electrical engineer will be involved in all phases of electrical design from initial concept definition, component selection, PCB and cable design, prototype fabrication and test, system integration, agency certification testing, transition to production, and post-release sustainment. Circuits will include low-noise amplifiers, sensor interfaces, HV H-bridges, power management, ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, serial interfaces, battery chargers, and voltage regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test electrical hardware for our trace detection equipment.
  • Be a contributing member of cross-functional teams developing new products, enhancing existing designs, and addressing the requirements of our customers.
  • Interface internally with S&T, supply chain, manufacturing, product management, quality, and service departments, as well as externally with customers, distributors, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and testing agencies.
  • Work with suppliers and cross-functional development teams to reduce time to market, product cost, and procurement lead-times while meeting design objectives.
  • Present regular written and verbal reports to cross-functional project team members.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for released products to improve manufacturability, reduce cost, replace end of life components, improve quality, increase reliability, decrease lead-times, and improve yield.
  • Prepare deliverables required by of our internal Integrated Product Development Process (IPDP) and by external contracts.
  • Responsible for delivering all electrical design and engineering documentation including: project plans, design requirements, verification and validation plans, product and project costs, schedules, status reports, schematics, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, bills of material, test reports, simulation results, engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Build, debug, and test engineering prototypes

Qualifications

  • BSEE degree and 2 years’ experience in electrical design
  • Knowledge of ECAD tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation including Siemens/Mentor Graphics PADS software tools.
  • Analog/Digital circuit PCB and system design experience of electronics, including high voltage switching, RF, RF resonators, low noise amplification circuits, and FPGA integration.
  • Familiar with multilayer PCB design and procurement
  • Experience with analog design including EMI architecture definition, characterization, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with MRB software for creating and structuring BOM’s
  • Experienced with laboratory test equipment, oscilloscopes, function generators, DMM, pneumatic controls, pressure sensors, actuators, etc.
  • Microcontroller and FGPA design a plus
  • Hands on development of prototypes and test fixtures.
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.

  • Team player with strong facilitation / interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement.
  • Strong analytical design skills including experience designing using schematic capture and PCB layout CAD software.
  • Externally focused in terms of manufacturing, customer & market requirements.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate with scientists, electrical and mechanical engineers, suppliers, production, manufacturing engineers, quality, and customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
