Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for the financial close and preparation of Financial Statements. The Controller will also assist in the supervision and management of staff and financial policies and processes. Additionally, the Controller ensures regulatory compliance, manages the external audit, and is responsible for other financial matters as they pertain to the healthy financial status of the Agency.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee the timely closing of accounting periods, ensuring compliance with both internal and external deadlines. 
  • Manage assigned staff and functions.
  • Prepare Financial Statements and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data and reports.
  • Manage the annual external audit.
  • Responsible for managing tax filings, including; Form 990, 1099s, 941s, and W2s.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget.
  • Responsible for compliance and best practices, including internal controls.
  • Responsible for Agency cash management and preparation of cash forecast reports.
  • Manage all credit and banking relations.
  • Oversee and audit bi-weekly payroll.
  • Prepare and oversee expense allocation support.
  • Manage all real property, inventory, and lease accounting (ASC 842).
  • Assist in the review and approval of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules.
  • Other related duties as directed and deemed appropriate to position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of financial and accounting standards and regulations, including, but not limited to:
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control procedures, and expense allocations.
  • Prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to work autonomously with a high degree of integrity, confidentiality.
  • Proficiency of computers including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication as well as management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college, required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role, required.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Flexible schedule to work after hours and weekends, as necessary.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to and from work, as well for off-site meetings and appointments as need.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily works in office environment, but will also work throughout the agency and off-site.
  • Ability to communicate with donors, volunteers, board members, and co-workers.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand.
