Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has seven stores in Norwalk, Danbury, and Newington, CT, Farmingdale, East Meadow & Yonkers, NY, and Paramus NJ. Stew’s earned its nickname, the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores” because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Marketing Director is responsible for driving, managing, and executing digital marketing efforts to support Stew Leonard’s retail stores and e-commerce sites. He/she is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy across digital channels -- websites, App, email, social, search, display, and programmatic -- to acquire new customers and grow sales from existing customers. This position will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure marketing efforts align with overall business strategies/financial objectives, and he/she will work closely with external partners to optimize the program and maximize advertising return on investment (ROI). The Digital Marketing Director must be a hands-on manager, an astute analyst, and a good strategist. He/she must have relevant experience working for a multi-location retail business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Digital Strategy and Execution
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive digital marketing strategy aligned with Stew Leonard’s strategic objectives, primarily driving customers to our brick-and-mortar locations.
  • Direct, manage and execute all digital marketing activities.
  • Should be adept at customer-journey strategy development in the digital space and omnichannel execution.
  • Candidate must be able to execute all tactics: SEM, SEO, Website(s) updates/production, ecommerce merchandising, social media (paid and owned), programmatic, content development, and media buying. There is limited agency support.
  • Candidate must be able to optimize what we are currently doing (email, App, websites, social, streaming audio and video, etc.) and build out our digital marketing program into other channels where it makes sense for us to participate.
  • Websites
  • Help us harness the power of our websites to better engage customers to drive online and in-store sales. 
  • Oversee website experience to provide a dynamic digital experience across devices with features and functionality that provide an inspiring, user-friendly experience to customers.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to manage Stew Leonard’s e-commerce businesses (Stew’s e-commerce storefront, catering, and gifts), including business planning, content strategy and development, promotional campaigns, online marketing, web design, customer service, web analytics and technologies.
  • Generate and implement new sales and marketing initiatives to increase e-commerce sales and profitability.
  • Email Marketing
  • Must be expert at creating and executing email marketing programs, as well as all promotional, trigger-based, targeted/segmented campaigns, and service/post transaction emails.
  • Verifiable success maintaining vigorous list hygiene.
  • Must be proficient using MailChimp.
  • Develop email KPIs to score the email program, including creating and sharing weekly, and monthly reporting.
  • App Development
  • Candidate will lead the continued development, analysis, and enhancement of the Stew Leonard’s App, growing it into a true loyalty program.
  • Leverage App data to create segmented campaigns to increase customer frequency, average basket size, and loyalty.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to develop and execute an enhanced rewards strategy.
  • Manage relationship with vendor partners to introduce upgrades for new features, enhancements, and to ensure App stability.
  • Digital Marketing
  • Candidate must be versed in creating and executing marketing campaigns that leverage the appropriate digital channels: Email, streaming audio and video, digital display, email, social, SEO/SEM, programmatic, etc. Note, there is limited agency support.
  • Partner with marketing leadership for the strategic oversight of the digital marketing roadmap including future vendor selection, systems recommendations, management, and testing.
  • Using a test-and-learn strategy, create and execute campaigns that generate measurable sales and footsteps in our brick-and-mortar locations.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of current and emerging trends in digital marketing, technology, and e-commerce.
  • Responsible for developing and optimizing a digital marketing calendar.
  • Develop and manage all Customer Relationship Marketing touch points including email marketing, retention strategies, and new customer acquisition initiatives.
  • Drive testing, reporting, optimizing, and analyzing channel performance to identify key levers and opportunities for improvements to achieve maximum AROI in each channel.
  • Lead effort to measure, analyze and attribute marketing spend to traffic and sales.
  • Work with the creative, content, and social media teams to create relevant digital marketing content.
  • Manage digital marketing budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in digital marketing, preferably in retail.
  • Experience in Digital Marketing, E-commerce Merchandising and Web Production functions, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google Analytics, Paid Search, Social Media, Display, Video, Retargeting, Affiliate Marketing, Content Development, App Marketing, and Product Recommendation Engines.
  • Must be proficient using MailChimp, WordPress, Shopify, Google AdWords, Google Analytics, Microsoft Office.
  • Candidate MUST be able to hit the ground running. There is no time for on-the-job learning.

  • Works well under pressure.
  • Adept at multitasking.
