Who We Are

The Mission of the Denver District Attorney's Office is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and human administration of justice. The office employs approximately 110 attorneys and 160 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver, and is responsible for the prosecution of violation of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is Beth McCann.

The Division

Juvenile prosecution is a highly specialized unit of prosecutors, victim witness specialists and investigators all committed to focusing on juvenile prosecution and working with juveniles involved in the criminal justice system. Case topics include, but are not limited to: School weapon and threat cases, sexting, drug use and possession, sexual assaults on children, burglary, aggravated robbery, aggravated motor vehicle theft, credit card and identity theft, and gang-related crimes.

Juvenile prosecutors’ work on increasing awareness of the serious impact juvenile offenders have on communities. Specifically, there has been a marked upswing in terms of home and business burglaries and as well as, violent crimes. Juvenile prosecutors may also be assigned and assist in the most serious juvenile cases, which are filed directly into district court as adult cases.

The full pay range for this position is $103,977.00 - $171,562.00 per year, based on your experience and education. Location

This position reports on site at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St, Denver, CO 80202, Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

What You’ll Do

We are currently seeking a Juvenile Unit Deputy District Attorney to join the Denver Districts Attorney’s Office, 2nd District Court – Juvenile Unit. In this role, you will be representing the People of the State of Colorado in trial and appellate matters. You will be providing legal counsel to law enforcement agencies within the Second Juridical District. You will participate in a range of multi-agency task forces and committees with law enforcement and other community partner professionals. Juvenile Prosecutors also take part in staffing and handling specialized dockets- to address larger concerns for the Juvenile’s rehabilitation, overall wellbeing and community safety.

On a day-to-day basis, the Deputy District Attorney (Juvenile Unit) will: 

  • Maintain a felony caseload, including making appropriate plea offers, litigating motions and preparing cases for trial
  • Partner with other deputies on cases
  • Partner with members of Denver Police Department and other community agencies
  • Assist victims of crime through the criminal justice system
  • Periodically serving on call to provide legal advice to Denver Police Department’s homicide unit
  • Apply sound legal practice and judgment to ensure accurate and sufficient case documentations is preformed
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the District Attorney

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • Has three (3+) plus years of experience in District Court

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Laws Degree
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an attorney at law working with juveniles.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application
