Pacific Biosciences has flagged the Equipment Engineer - Night Shift job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

Company Overview

Driven by our vision of the affordable, reliable, net-zero carbon grid of the future, Mainspring has developed a new category of power generation — the linear generator — that delivers local, scalable, and fuel-flexible power to help accelerate the transition to the net-zero carbon grid.

The unique combination of attributes offered by Mainspring’s linear generator enables applications on both the commercial and utility sides of the meter for the $816B global electricity equipment market. We serve a wide range of Fortune 500 customers across markets and industries as well as top-tier utilities and other gridside providers.

We are looking to build relationships with people who share our values:

  • Pragmatic Optimism. Building a new category of world-class power generation requires the optimism of ambition and creativity, balanced with practicality to solve problems efficiently. The challenges that arise are opportunities for growth.
  • Excellence without Ego. We bring expertise and commitment to creating the best customer experience, from sales to deployment and service, just as we apply deep technical rigor to building and delivering world-class products. We strive for excellence and behave as leaders with the humility to acknowledge our challenges, both collectively and as individual contributors.
  • Proactive Collaboration. The integration and cross-disciplinary nature of Mainspring’s business requires intentionally seeking out others who bring different skills, perspectives, and priorities. Our culture of inclusion and respect extends beyond our team to interactions with our partners and customers.

Mainspring is based in Menlo Park and has partnered with top-tier investors and utilities such as Khosla Ventures, Bill Gates, NextEra, and American Electric Power. More information can be found at www.mainspringenergy.com.

Responsibilities

The technology that powers Mainspring’s Linear Generator is unlike any other generator technology on the market. The Linear Generator relies on innovative electrical power and control hardware systems to achieve its best-in-class efficiency while meeting the world’s strictest emissions requirements. These electrical hardware systems are designed by a talented team of electrical engineers that own hardware design from initial concept through test and manufacturing.

We have a highly impactful opportunity for an electrical engineer to shape the future of the Linear Generator’s electrical power conversion system. In this role, you will…

  • Design the critical electrical systems that enable key functions and ever-expanding features of the Linear Generator
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware issues that may arise in the test lab, production floor, and field units
  • Work on integration of key power components such as grid-tie inverters, high voltage batteries, 3-phase transformers, DC-DC converters
  • Collaborate with the new product introduction (NPI) team and external suppliers to improve designs for manufacturability and testability
  • Bring-up, validate, and qualify your electrical hardware design changes at our R&D facility
  • Partner with reliability engineers to further drive up power assembly reliability
  • Become an expert on the power hardware subsystems that you own from concept to deployment in both AC and DC microgrid applications

Qualifications

You have...

  • Experience designing, developing, and realizing power electronics hardware within thermal and mechanical constraints
  • A “collaborate-first” mindset and ability to communicate across a range of disciplines and personalities
  • An eagerness to work on a wide variety of assignments. This position is well suited for an engineer interested in power electronic applications & novel system architectures
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering with basic fundamentals of circuit theory, power conversion, and system modeling
  • Analytical skills ranging from visualizing lab data in Excel, Matlab or Python, to complex simulations in LTSpice, Simulink or PSCAD
  • Hands-on experience using an oscilloscope, multimeter and other test instruments to measure electrical parameters such as voltage, current, frequency
  • Lab safety training to work on 480VAC and 1000VDC equipment, including LOTO and PPE awareness

The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$180k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is on-site in Menlo Park, CA. The salary will be adjusted based on the experience of the employee.
