Position Summary

The overall objective of the Analyst is to support the Management reporting and analysis functions of Individual Markets. Responsibilities include preparation of P&L reports, provide assistance in the review of financial results and the preparation of quarterly earnings analysis package. The Analyst will support a combination of reporting and analysis functions, and assist in the development of key indicators/ratios to better analyze financial results. In addition, the Analyst will look to identify, communicate and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance reports and provide efficiencies in the management reporting process.


To be successful in this position, the employee should possess a detail oriented mindset to ensure accuracy of data contained in management reports, as well as develop a good understanding of key drivers to provide pertinent financial analysis to management. The Analyst will display technical and functional competence in management reporting and analysis and uphold Guardian’s commitment to ethical business practices, develop cross-business connections and seek various perspectives and gain strong understanding of reporting needs to develop analysis and insights around Individual Markets products and subsidiary earnings.

Candidate Responsibilities
  • Prepare reports such as P&L reports by product, Monthly Flash reports.
  • Prepare actual vs plan/reforecast and prior year variance analysis.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of the quarterly IM earnings deck.
  • Liaise regularly with other members of Individual Markets FP&A, Controllers and Agency Finance, as well as key business partners in Actuarial and Corporate Finance and Accounting.
  • Improve reporting proficiency and expand the use of Smartview, Adaptive and other queries & reporting tools
  • Support other Individual Markets areas (Actuarial, Product, Strategy, etc.).
  • Ad-hoc reporting and analyses. 
Reporting Relationships

The position will provide support in managing Individual Markets Management Reporting function by providing various management reports and analytics.  The position will report into the Manager of Management Reporting.

Position Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of financial analytics, budgeting and reporting.
  • Insurance industry experience a plus, but not required.
  • 4-6 years of Finance/Accounting experience, specifically with experience in management reporting and analysis
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work additional hours during peak sessions
  • Ability to make suggestions to management based on analysis
  • Ability to work independently
