The American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. Summary

We are currently seeking a Program Lead for Volunteer Workforce Engagement to support International Services (ISD) and Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) at National Headquarters (NHQ). This is a full-time remote position that reports directly to the Director of Workforce Design and Enablement.

This position will oversee the execution of ISD and SAF Volunteer Strategy, ensuring both departments are able to secure the volunteer workforce required to effectively execute their missions. This includes support of the full volunteer lifecycle for headquarters positions, as well as providing guidance and process improvement support for all SAF and ISD volunteer management procedures. This position supports volunteers and supervisors at NHQ and in the field worldwide.

Oversight of Volunteer Engagement (40%)

  • Serve as the department lead for volunteer opportunities and engagement, in close coordination with Volunteer Services.
  • Consult with business unit managers on volunteer position development and identification of volunteer needs.
  • Coach managers and provide direct support on volunteer onboarding, engagement, development, training and recognition. 
  • Identify and share lessons learned and best practices with volunteer managers. Develop doctrine and standard operating procedures to improve the volunteer experience.
  • Recruit and manage a team of Volunteer Leads.
  • Lead administration of Volunteer Connection and execute required steps in the engagement cycle, including: compile and submit quarterly Needs Assessment, screen resumes, coordinate with NHQ teams to fill open positions, run and analyze Volunteer Connection reports, manage volunteer intake queue and referrals, and help troubleshoot Volunteer Connection system issues.
  • Manage volunteer and employee recognition programs throughout the year including the oversight of award nominations, purchasing and recognition events
  • Provide support and guidance to OCONUS SAF programs related to volunteer management, Volunteer Connection and NHQ initiatives

Training Development and Continuous Improvement (40%)

  • Identify and develop training opportunities to build the skills of volunteer supervisors and invest in Volunteer Leads, in coordination with the training unit.
  • Standardizing processes
  • Hosting classes
  • Convene diverse stakeholders, including in the field, domestically, overseas and at NHQ, to solve problems and build consensus.
  • Leading workgroups
  • Support the implementation of recommendations and management of special projects to improve volunteer programs.
  • OCONUS continued support
  • NS capacity building
  • As requested NHQ VS initiatives and special programs
  • Providing Volunteer Management and Volunteer Connection training to the SAF deployment teams, including virtual and in-person classes, and continued resource support

Reporting and Volunteer Connection Technical Support (20%)

  • As a subject matter expert in Volunteer Connection, help troubleshoot issues in the system and coordinate requests for support with Volunteer Services.
  • Coordinate with the Quality, Data and Learning team on reporting and measurement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  • Analyze volunteer data, disseminate reports, identify trends, and communicate issues.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the deployment team and OCONUS divisions in Volunteer Connection management, troubleshooting issues

Up to 10% travel required domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience.
  • Required Experience:
  • Progressive experience directing and leading large-scale programs with volunteers as a critical component of success.
  • Must display flexibility, adaptability, initiative, and a high degree of competence in project support, process improvement, and teamwork.
  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Required Competencies and Skills:
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to volunteers and volunteerism.
  • Proficiency managing ambiguity.
  • Customer Focused.
  • Must have excellent writing, editing and time-management skills, with a high proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must possess strong personal integrity and commitment to basic Red Cross principles.
  • Preferred experience and knowledge:
  • Volunteer Connection and Power BI.
  • Experience working across different Regions or geography.
  • Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and/or American Red Cross.
  • International humanitarian and development sector.
  • Military culture and policy related to military families, veterans and wounded warriors.
  • Proven success supporting volunteer programs across the recruitment, engagement, development and recognition cycle.

PAY INFORMATION: 

The starting annual salary range for this position is $70K-$95K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
