The Department of Biology at Wake Forest University invites applicants for a permanent Assistant Teaching Professor position to begin July 1, 2024. 

We seek candidates with a strong commitment to engaging students in the classroom, and experience relevant to teaching lecture and laboratory courses in molecular biology and either cell biology or biochemistry at the undergraduate level. A Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Biochemistry or other fields related to these topics is required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience or knowledge of inclusive, evidence-based pedagogy that enhances student learning. 

The successful candidate will teach molecular biology and lab, and either cell biology or biochemistry in a rotation schedule. It is anticipated that they would also have opportunities to develop and teach upper-level courses in topics related to their specialty suitable for advanced undergraduates and/or graduate students. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biology and a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree through a partnership with the Department of Chemistry. Teaching professors in Biology at Wake Forest University are integral members of the department, engaged in departmental faculty governance as well as the central teaching and service missions of the College. This is a permanent but non-tenurable, full-time position with an initial contract on a two-year renewable schedule with the goal of promotion to ranks with longer-term appointments. Teaching Professors in the Biology Department dedicate 80% of their time to teaching and 20% to service. A typical teaching load is a total of 3 lecture or lab sections each semester (16-40 students each). Teaching Professors, like all faculty serve as academic advisers and can serve on departmental committees, graduate thesis committees and college and university committees. Teaching faculty are eligible for departmental and institutional funding for professional development.
