As an Industrial Engineer, you will partner with our operations team to enable the efficient build of our Dreamchaser Spaceplane, Shooting Star Cargo Module and other critical spacecraft and systems. Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL—designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defines the optimal and efficient concept of operations for the build of the Dreamchaser Spaceplane, Shooting Star Cargo module, and associated systems, integrating utilization of people, parts, tools, processes, and information systems.
  • Develop and lead process improvement efforts for production and business processes across all sectors.
  • Own production system optimization initiatives across multiple manufacturing sites. This includes time studies, metric development and tracking, and capacity & utilization analysis.
  • Define current conditions in processes, identify key drivers of inefficiency, and execute projects as required to enable successful transition to target condition.
  • Supports and facilitates Lean workshops, kaizen events, and problem solving activities to instill a culture of standardization and continuous improvement.
  • Utilizes value stream maps, process flow charts, and data analytics to identify opportunities in production, engineering, and support processes.
  • Leads implementation of multiple projects and initiatives to optimize product flow and quality.
  • Supports the implementation of standard work for production support operations. Analyzes and documents current processes to eliminate wastes and maximize value added activities.
  • Coaches and mentors leaders at all level of the organization in Lean and Six Sigma tools.
  • Integrates and clearly communicates with stakeholders from every level of the organization.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Capability working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Business Administration is desirable.
  • Project Management Certification (PMI/IPMA)
  • Knowledge of aerospace assembly, integration, and test process and requirements.
  • Experience working on advanced aerospace development programs.

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

Estimated Starting Salary Range: 

$91,154.71 - $136,732.06

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
