As a Principal Process Engineer II with Purolite, an Ecolab Company, you will join our rapidly growing global engineering team. This is a great opportunity to join and advance with an innovative and high-growth global company committed to sustainability.

Purolite has both existing operations and significant planned capital investments at its Philadelphia location and is looking for a principal process engineer to lead the development & tech transfer on its direct lithium extraction absorbent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

You will have a strong background in chemistry/chemical engineering, and chemical processes. You will have a good understanding of equipment specifications, process safety, and batch liquid processes.

Main Responsibilities:

“Run the Business” Process Engineering (~60%)

  • Learn the direct lithium absorbent resin production process to become an SME for the Purolite business.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. 
  • Recommends new, or modification of existing equipment, instruments or control schemes. 
  • Primarily focus on hands-on process troubleshooting of the direct lithium absorbent resin
  • Performs general process engineering functions related to equipment design, PFD/P&ID development ad start-up. 
  • Conduct research in developing new processes and techniques. 
  • Provide technical support to plant production personnel. 
  • This is an onsite role, with occasional opportunities to work remotely. 

Large Capital Project Process Engineering (~40%)

  • Partner with the Lead Process Engineer for a >$25M capital investment at the Philadelphia G Street facility focusing on direct lithium extraction resin.
  • Participate on the tech transfer from the existing operation onsite towards the new commercial scale operation.
  • Work with an EPCM company to prepare process P&IDs and other process deliverables to deliver the capital project.
  • Work within the multi-discipline team of internal & external stakeholders, working closely with the Purolite end users to design & construct the manufacturing facility.
  • Work with internal Process Safety, Reliability, TPM, Quality, Production, and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance of any new processes, plants, and equipment.
  • Support all Environmental, Health and Safety activities including permitting, plant safety engineering and hazard analysis, and ISO management systems related to EHS. 
  • Support and participate in LEAN studies, TPM workshops, and Operator training.
  • Attend and lead Factory Acceptance Tests for key process equipment
  • Support the successful commissioning & startup of a new commercial scale operation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
  • 4 years hands-on process engineering experience 
  • Solid understanding of batch liquids processing
  • Excellent communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment
  • Experience with industrial resin manufacturing
