This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for permanent appointment. Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years.

The Water Enterprise manages our complex regional water supply system featuring reservoirs, tunnels, pipelines, and treatment plants. We serve 2.7 million Bay Area residential, commercial, and industrial customers with high-quality, great tasting water every day. Position Summary
Under general supervision and during a shift, the Stationary Engineer, Water Treatment Plant Operator operates, maintains, and repairs a wide variety of complex machinery and equipment in a water treatment plant and/or pumping station or related facility. Work may include physical effort in climbing ladders (up to 16 ft.) to inspect projects, confined space entry including tight crawl spaces, working in remote areas, and using a respirator. The work is in an industrial, physically restrictive, and hazardous environment. The Stationary Water Treatment Plant Operator must be able: to audit alarm screens; to identify levels of audible alarms; and be able to identify leaks by smell. May be required to work weekends, shifts and overtime. Reporting work location will be in San Bruno or Sunol.

Positions located at the Water Supply and Treatment Division will require incumbents to obtain and successfully maintain a Grade III Water Treatment Operator Certificate within 18 months from the date of hire.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Some physical effort is required in the operation, repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment including kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting crawling, climbing, working in various lift equipment and use of fixed and portable ladders up to 75 feet, walking long distances and lifting up to 50 pounds in the performance of important and essential duties. This also includes exposure to working conditions where the performance of duties requires working in confined spaces, damp environments, outdoors in inclement weather, and with chemicals. Required to work various shifts including nights, holidays, weekends, and on standby duty as needed or as operational need and staffing levels require.
Upon appointment to Class 7341, employees may be required to take a State mandated respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) medical examination (renewed annually) and be clean-shaven prior to starting each shift for respirator and SCBA use. Employees may be required to pass CPR training annually and first aid training tri-annually.

Employees of the City and County of San Francisco may submit performance evaluations showing duties performed to verify qualifying City experience. City employees will receive credit for the duties of the class to which appointed. Credit for experience obtained outside of the employee’s class will be allowed only if recorded in accordance with the provisions of Civil Service Commission Rules. CCSF employees will not receive credit for experience obtained outside of their classification unless recorded in accordance with the provision of the Civil Service Rule 110.9.1/111A.11.2.
Experience claimed in self-employment will only be accepted if supported by documents verifying income, earnings, business license, and experience comparable to minimum qualifications above. Copies of income tax papers or other documents listing occupation and total earnings must be submitted.
Verification of required valid licensure/certification typically must be a photocopy of the license/certificate including the name of the issuing agency as well as the name of the license/certificate holder, license/certificate number, and expiration date.
All work experience, education, training and other information substantiating how you meet the minimum qualifications must be included on your application by the filing deadline.
