The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking Vehicle Test Operations Manager, whom is responsible to lead a 250+ member team of shop supervisors and the Salaried Bargaining Unit (SBU) workforces in vehicle level durability testing environments at both the Chelsea Proving Grounds and Arizona Proving Grounds facilities. The selected individual will have experience in managing cross-functionally, and possesses a broad knowledge of the entire automotive engineering, manufacturing, and quality landscape. This person must have unquestioned integrity. Additionally, the Manager will present outstanding teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead a workforce of supervisors, test drivers, and mechanics in a 24/7 durability test operation at Chelsea and Arizona Proving Grounds
  • Maintain current safety protocols and develop new improvements for drivers and mechanics
  • Ensure test vehicles are driven according to test schedule with proper conformance
  • Ensure drivers and mechanics properly document all vehicle issues and potential customer concerns
  • Ensure test vehicles are properly maintained and work orders completed in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary down time
  • Lead on-going process improvements and best practices across the facilities in order to drive improved performance regarding safety, cost, and delivery
  • Ensure drivers are properly trained to perform all durability testing
  • Ensure mechanics undergo continuous training to ensure highest level of capability
  • Evaluate vehicle test levels to adequately match number of drivers with vehicles
  • Review weekly test completion percent to determine OT required to stay on schedule
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with drivers, mechanics, union officials, and management in other departments
  • Able to work additional hours as required, including holidays and weekends when needed
  • Budget planning and execution tracking 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous supervision/leadership experience
  • 3 years of quality experience
  • 3 years of Manufacturing/Plant/similar operational environment experience
  • Computer literate – Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient with statistics in operational decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Able to work additional hours as required, including holidays and weekends when needed
  • Vehicle repair knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering/Business
  • Experience leading a union workforce in a 2- or 3-shift, 7-day operation
  • Working knowledge of WCM
  • Experience in UAW contract negotiations
