Associate Scientist/Research Associate – Product Development


10x Genomics is looking for an outstanding Associate Scientist/Research Associate to join its Chemistry group. This individual will assist in performing advanced research for new approaches in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry and bioinstrumentation.  They will meticulously execute, and troubleshoot experiments that will include sample preparation, cell culture and handling, RT-PCR, PCR, library preparation, sequencing, and other routine molecular biology techniques. The Research Associate will also analyze data and assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations and reports, and maintain detailed experiment documentation.

They must be able to work both independently and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, and be willing to shift focus between a variety of projects.

Exceptional consideration will be given to individuals whose molecular understanding of complex NGS problems has led to fundamental advancements in existing technologies and/or the successful launch of commercial products.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist in the design, implementation and verification of assays and chemistries that support the development of applications and protocols for 10x Genomics’ Single Cell Solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the interplay between chemistry, molecular biology and microfluidics to support assay development, root cause analysis and process optimization.
  • Transferring manual workflows onto automated liquid handling workstations.
  • Participate in the preparation of scientific materials and other marketing collateral such as demonstrated datasets and protocols and application notes
  • Productive execution of well thought out experiments, accurate recording of results along with in-depth analysis and reporting of these results.
  • Conduct stability, guard band, workflow variability and system verification testing.
  • Work with computational biology personnel to interpret data and develop methods for data analysis.


Required Skills and Background

  • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology.
  • Experience in a wide-variety of molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis and manipulation including DNA and RNA purification, amplification, qPCR, ddPCR.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in cell culturing/handling techniques.
  • Ability to develop, validate and transfer processes to the Technical Transfer group.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.
  • Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, with a compelling technology, and taking products and processes to the next level.


Desired Skills and Background

  • Experience with NGS library preparation and troubleshooting highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement complex multi-step assay schemes.
  • Demonstrated ability to modify existing assays schemes to address new measurement challenges.
  • Experience operating automated liquid handling systems.
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of complex data sets.
