This is a part time position. Reporting to the Resident Director, the Director of Education will assist in guiding the strategy, development and management of youth education at the Botanic Gardens at Burden. Including but not limited the current established programs Burden Woods/Trees and Trails program, Story Time in the Garden, and Children’s Gardening Series. This position will also work closely with other faculty, staff and organizations as a team player to continue ongoing programing and development of new programing. This position will be responsible for supervising volunteers that will assist with the youth education programs. Responsibilities of this position will also include assisting with the design and implementation of new specialty gardens and related youth educational programming. This position is a critical part of continuing to build the extension efforts at the Botanic Gardens as related to horticulture and the environment. Responsibilities include: Work with the Events and Program Coordinator to book schools for the Trees and Trails program. Work with the Trees and Trails docents to continue the current program and develop new programing to help expand the program. Develop educational materials for docent led programs and the self-guided programs. Assist the EBR Master Gardener Association with the Children’s Gardening Series. Assist with the Story Time in the Garden program in partnership with the Baton Rouge Junior League. Assist Extension Specialist with educational programming for the Children’s Garden, conducting workshops and developing educational materials. Assist with supervising the maintenance of the Children’s Garden. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of educational materials including material for programs, workshops, newsletters, brochures, and the website.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply. The candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
