The R&D Tax Manager at Armanino is responsible for assisting clients in identifying and maximizing federal and state research and development (R&D) tax credits and incentives. This includes working closely with clients to identify and document qualifying research and development activities, preparing and reviewing technical reports and financial calculations, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Lead and manage a team of R&D tax professionals in providing comprehensive tax services to clients, including planning, consulting, and compliance related to R&D tax credits
  • Work closely with clients to identify and document qualifying research and development activities, reviewing technical documentation and financial records
  • Prepare and review R&D tax credit calculations and associated documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Oversee the identification, qualification, and documentation of eligible R&D activities and expenses for clients across various industries
  • Conduct interviews and gather technical information from client personnel to support their R&D claims
  • Assist in providing client support during tax audits or examinations related to R&D tax credits
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, developers, and finance professionals, to gather information and strengthen R&D credit claims
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as tax and audit, to ensure seamless and efficient service delivery to clients
  • Provide technical guidance and review work papers prepared by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations related to R&D credits and inform clients of any potential tax-saving opportunities
  • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff to enhance their technical skills and knowledge in R&D tax credits

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • CPA, JD, EA or equivalent credential
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax consulting/compliance within public accounting with a focus on R&D tax incentives
  • Minimum of 2 years in a managerial role involving clients and team members, including the review of tax returns, provisions and accompanying work papers, and supervision of staff assisting in the preparation of client deliverables

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Taxation

Certain states require us to disclose the pay range and benefits summary for job openings. Compensation Range for this position: $85,000-$160,000. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location.
