UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking Linux System Engineer for the Research Computing Infrastructure Services team. This position is responsible for general linux systems and storage administration of our computer and storage clusters. They configure and manage linux systems in our HPC cluster, stand-alone nodes, and in our storage clusters. They assist our User Services teams with troubleshooting and provisioning of users and software. 

The mission and goal of Research Computing is to provide centralized computational resources for researchers rather than general enterprise IT capacity. This involves working with a wide range of research software packages and the OpenStack Private Cloud Platform. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • 7 years of experience in Linux systems administration may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Familiarity with a Configuration Management System (Ansible and AWX preferred)
  • Hardware debugging skills
  • Strong Ethernet debugging skills (experience with IB is a bonus)
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and inclusive
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Preferred Skills: OpenStack and Containers (Singularity, Kubernetes)
  • Ideal candidate: working familiarity with GPFS and Ceph filesystems.

Anticipated hiring range : $85,000-$100,000
