Electrical Systems & Data Acquisition Summer Student Engineer

Job Summary and Description:

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Actively participate in designing, building, programming, and executing power quality meter lab testing and experiments
  • Assist with general lab organization and improvements for testing and experimentation purposes
  • Work with fabrication tools to construct test fixtures and prototype devices
  • Assist in researching power quality meter manufacturer specifications for acquiring and reporting relevant data
  • Research, Learn, and Conduct work according to applicable IEEE, IEC, NFPA electrical standards 
  • Setup, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot standard electronics testing equipment, meters, scopes, spectrum analyzers, data recorders, etc., and corresponding software
  • Collect data, perform basic calculations, and report findings to engineering staff
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas

Education & Experience: 

  • Certifications and/or currently enrolled in an Associates or Bachelor’s program in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Hands on practical experience with power, electronic, and control systems
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software tools i.e., Oscilloscopes and Function Generators
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles and fundamentals
  • Experience in any of the following is a plus: Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Arduino

  • Strong time management skills and dedication to quality

The hourly rate range for Student positions are:

  • Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour
  • Masters: $25-31 per hour
  • Ph.D: $27-34 per hour

These ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
