Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking an exceptional and experienced Engineer to help lead research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities of Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. As an Engineer III, you will contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustaining of engineering activities of the Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. Working in this role, you’ll assist in verifying the reliability and robustness of Iridium products and communication services and will participate in the development activities related to our test automation efforts. Demonstrated work experience in engineering practices and software/hardware testing and a desire to build leadership skills are necessary for success in this position. The ideal candidate will have a vested interest in the long-term success of their work with a keen desire to learn and be highly self-reliant.

What You’ll Do:

  • Use depth of knowledge to solve problems and offer creative solutions by becoming a technical leader within the organization.
  • Recreate reported software and/or hardware non-conformances using test infrastructure and document non-compliances
  • Play a key role in Identifying and developing processes, procedures, tools and/or scripts to maximize system uptime and operational efficiency
  • Learn the details and protocols of the Iridium satellite constellation and ground systems to accurately and quickly identify issues and defects.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, procedures, and product documentation
  • Analyze test results, generate and present reports based on test execution and analysis
  • Work with industry standard tools and software such as Elasticsearch/Logstash/Kibana, Amazon Web Services, CI/CD DevOps pipelines, containers and more.

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience in the aerospace or telecommunications industry
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing Services and Cloud Infrastructure
  • Knowledge of featured services such as storage, compute services, containers, and virtual servers
  • A drive to work with test automation.
  • An interest in providing high-quality, cost-effective segment/system integration, test, and support services.
  • General experience and/or knowledge of various software languages including Python, C, C++, C#, Java, etc.
  • Experience working with Linux and/or Unix via the command line
  • Experience developing software in Python and/or other object-oriented software languages
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks.
  • A motivation to achieve outcomes and results.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with guidance for accuracy and quality
  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge.

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Demonstrated systems integration experience
  • Exposure to laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.)
  • Exposure to Agile development methodology
  • Knowledgeable with high-availability software and hardware systems
  • Knowledgeable with databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server

We’ll Also Need You To:

  • Be willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually
  • Be willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues
  • Be a U.S. citizen (due to ITAR restrictions)

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
